Position Summary
The Vice President of Scientific Affairs will collaborate closely with the CEO to propel AcuraStem's mission of developing superior treatments for neurological conditions and ensuring their swift delivery to patients through a patient-centric approach and the iNeuroRx platform. This role is crucial for managing and enhancing AcuraStem's scientific initiatives by identifying and validating new therapeutic targets, determining optimal treatment modalities, and advancing existing antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) programs into early clinical studies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the CEO to outline the scientific vision aligned with the company’s goals.
  • Engage with essential stakeholders, including board members and investors, to garner support for the neuroscience strategy.
  • Act as the scientific representative of the company, delivering presentations and crafting grant proposals.
  • Maintain and enhance expertise in current and emerging knowledge related to neuroscience.
  • Oversee cross-functional project teams to ensure timely and high-quality outcomes.
  • Enhance and expand the company’s technology platform, focusing on human iPSC disease modeling and in vivo pharmacology.
  • Lead the iPSC disease modeling team to refine experimental processes and broaden indications.
  • Manage the discovery and prioritization of new therapeutic targets.
  • Guide R&D leads to elevate therapeutic candidates to development status.
  • Direct the translational team in biomarker development and IND-enabling studies.
  • Establish initial clinical strategies and plans for various programs.
  • Innovatively bootstrap new programs pending funding allocation.
  • Collaborate with project management and finance for effective project oversight.
  • Work with business development on scientific due diligence.
  • Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of scientists, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.

Qualifications

  • PhD with over 15 years of experience in academic, startup, and large biopharma environments, specializing in neuroscience and RNA therapeutics.
  • Extensive knowledge in neuroscience, neurological disease modeling, and drug development.
  • Proven track record of advancing therapeutics into clinical trials.
  • Experience in building biotech pipelines and R&D organizations.
  • Prior leadership experience in an R&D therapeutic area with comprehensive functional understanding.
  • Expertise in neurodegeneration and related conditions.
  • Strong background in all phases of research and development, including regulatory expertise.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, capable of guiding a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to mentor and cultivate scientific talent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, adept at bridging gaps between business leaders and scientific professionals.

Compensation and Benefits
AcuraStem is committed to fostering a diverse and equitable workplace. The compensation for this role ranges from $200,000 to $300,000, influenced by the candidate's qualifications and experience. AcuraStem offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:
