South San Francisco, California, United States Genentech Full time
Position Overview

At Genentech, we are committed to fostering a healthier future through innovative solutions. Our mission is to advance scientific knowledge and ensure that healthcare is accessible for everyone, both now and in the future.

We are currently seeking a skilled and driven Bioinformatics Scientist to contribute significantly to data-centric initiatives in collaboration with our Immunology Discovery Department.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary focus will be on chronic inflammatory conditions, working alongside computational biologists within Genentech Computational Sciences and experimental scientists in Immunology Discovery.

The objective is to design and evaluate experiments utilizing (multi-)omics profiling in pre-clinical models and human samples to gain insights into, disrupt, and reverse pathobiology. This research will directly inform the development of novel therapeutic strategies and biomarker identification.

You should possess a passion for hands-on data analysis and synthesis across various data types (e.g., transcriptomic, epigenomic, genetic, histopathological, and clinical), although comprehensive experience in all areas is not a prerequisite. The role will involve the routine application and assessment of advanced algorithms, statistical methodologies, and pipelines to address compelling biological and clinical inquiries.

Work Environment

Join a vibrant research community where we strive to translate our understanding of immunology into innovative therapies and diagnostics, ultimately enhancing clinical practices and improving patient health.

You will collaborate with a team that boasts extensive computational and experimental expertise, valuing both collaboration and mentorship.

Access to pre-clinical and clinical samples, along with cutting-edge technologies, will be provided. You will also have opportunities to engage in pioneering research, participate in an active seminar series featuring both internal and external speakers, and publish or present your findings externally.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a PhD in Computational Biology, Immunology, Genomics, Genetics, or a related discipline.

A strong understanding of the principles and challenges associated with statistical analysis and biological interpretation of omics data is essential. Critical thinking regarding experimental design and a healthy skepticism are key attributes.

Proficiency in Python and/or R for statistical analysis, data transformation, and visualization is required.

Effective communication skills to convey scientific concepts and collaboratively interpret data with diverse teams are vital.

A record of publications or preprints as (co-)first author demonstrating the analysis of large-scale data to explore biological questions is preferred.

Preferred Skills

Experience with single-cell assays (e.g., single-cell ATAC/RNA-seq, single-cell perturbation screens) is advantageous.

A background in immunology and a keen interest in furthering your knowledge in this area are desirable.
