A Vision for Healthier Futures: At Genentech, we are committed to pioneering innovations that enhance healthcare access for all, today and for future generations.
As a Bioinformatics Scientist, you will be pivotal in driving data-centric initiatives alongside our Immunology Discovery Department.
Your Responsibilities:In this position, you will concentrate on chronic inflammatory conditions, collaborating closely with computational biologists from Genentech Computational Sciences and experimental scientists in Immunology Discovery.
Your primary objective will be to design and evaluate experiments utilizing (multi-)omics profiling in pre-clinical models and human samples to elucidate, disrupt, and reverse pathobiology.
This research will directly contribute to the development of innovative therapeutic strategies and biomarker identification.
Key Skills:You should possess a passion for hands-on data analysis and synthesis across various data types (e.g., transcriptomic, epigenomic, genetic, histopathological, and clinical). While comprehensive experience in all areas is not mandatory, familiarity with best-in-class algorithms, statistical methods, and pipelines is essential to address compelling biological and clinical inquiries.
Collaborative Environment:Join a vibrant research community dedicated to translating immunological insights into therapeutic and diagnostic advancements, ultimately improving patient health outcomes.
As part of our team, you will benefit from a wealth of computational and experimental expertise, fostering a culture of collaboration and mentorship.
Resources and Opportunities:You will have access to a diverse array of pre-clinical and clinical samples and datasets, as well as cutting-edge technologies and pioneering research initiatives.
Engage in active seminar series featuring both internal and external speakers, and seize opportunities to publish and present your findings.
Qualifications:The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Computational Biology, Immunology, Genomics, Genetics, or a related discipline.
A deep understanding of statistical analysis practices, principles, and the biological interpretation of omics data is crucial. You should approach experimental design with critical thinking and maintain a healthy skepticism.
Proficiency in Python and/or R for statistical analysis, data transformation, and visualization is expected.
Effective communication skills for conveying scientific concepts and collaboratively interpreting data with diverse teams are essential.
A track record of publications or preprints as (co-)first author, showcasing the analysis of large-scale data to explore biological questions, is highly desirable.
Preferred Experience:Experience with single-cell assays (e.g., single-cell ATAC/RNA-seq, single-cell perturbation screens) is advantageous.
A background in immunology and a strong desire to expand your knowledge in this area will be beneficial.
Equal Opportunity:Genentech is an equal opportunity employer, embracing the diverse world around us. We prohibit unlawful discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin or ancestry, age, disability, marital status, and veteran status.
