Principal Scientist in Bioinformatics

Location: Remote

Salary Range: $150,000-$180,000

Position Summary: Harnham is on the lookout for a skilled and driven Bioinformatics Scientist with a strong focus on RNA sequencing methodologies, both bulk and single-cell. The successful candidate will possess a solid foundation in bioinformatics, complemented by experience in RNAseq data interpretation and human genetics/statistical genetics. A genuine enthusiasm for converting intricate data into practical insights is essential.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Data Evaluation: Conduct thorough RNAseq data evaluations, including quality assessments, alignment procedures, differential expression evaluations, and pathway analyses.
  • Pipeline Development: Create and implement bioinformatics workflows and tailored tools to optimize RNAseq data processing and analysis.
  • Collaborative Research: Work alongside experimental biologists to design and assess RNAseq studies, offering insights that inform research strategies.
  • Results Communication: Analyze and convey findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, including the preparation of reports and visual data representations.
  • Continuous Learning: Keep abreast of the latest developments in bioinformatics and RNAseq techniques, incorporating new methodologies and tools into existing processes.
  • Documentation Practices: Ensure meticulous documentation of analytical methods, code, and outcomes to guarantee reproducibility and clarity.

Required Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Ph.D. or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or a related discipline.
  • Programming Expertise: Proficiency in Python programming is preferred.
  • Collaborative Spirit: Proven ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment and contribute to interdisciplinary projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research experience in statistical genetics, with relevant publications.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms and large-scale data management solutions.
  • Previous experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical setting is a plus.
