Position Overview:
At Genentech, we are committed to advancing scientific research to enhance the quality of life for individuals facing health challenges. The Cancer Immunology/Tumor Microenvironment team within Translational Medicine, Oncology is in search of a dedicated Lead Scientist. This pivotal role centers on translational research and the formulation of biomarker strategies to bolster Genentech's comprehensive immune oncology initiatives.

The ideal candidate will leverage advanced data analysis expertise in collaboration with a team of biomarker scientists to implement predictive and pharmacodynamic biomarker strategies for clinical development programs.

Key Responsibilities:
As a vital contributor to this innovative team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing and facilitating the analysis of extensive clinical biomarker datasets while fostering scientific and technical advancements in partnership with department colleagues.
  • Providing foundational bioinformatics support for research portfolio molecules, leading to first-in-human studies, alongside conducting data analysis and sharing insights to inform new concepts and clinical advancements in cancer immunotherapy.
  • Designing and executing laboratory experiments utilizing single-cell technologies and cellular immunology assays in neoantigen-based cancer vaccines, with an emphasis on TCR clonal mapping of antigen-specific T cells.
  • Leading a team in early-stage drug development to evaluate clinical readiness or in late-stage drug development to establish diagnostic and pharmacodynamic biomarker strategies.
  • Communicating findings through publications and presentations.

Candidate Profile:
The successful applicant will possess:

  • A PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., immunology, molecular biology, cancer genetics, cancer biology, molecular oncology) with a minimum of 3 years of postdoctoral or equivalent experience in basic or translational research, in either academic or industry environments.
  • Experience in applying computational analysis to translational research and proficiency in human immunological assays, including flow cytometry, T cell response monitoring, genomics, and single-cell assays.
  • Expertise in advanced computational tools, with prior experience in high-throughput molecular assays such as next-generation sequencing (WES, scRNAseq, ATACseq) and flow cytometry, along with proficiency in programming languages like R and Python for complex data analysis.
  • A track record of accomplishments evidenced by first- or senior-authored publications in immunology/tumor immunology, coupled with exceptional written and oral communication skills for presenting results at intra- and inter-departmental meetings, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Relocation benefits are available for this position. The expected salary range for this role is $141,500 - $262,900, determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law.
