Job Overview

Position Summary:

The student employee will deliver exceptional customer service and provide vital support to the office and faculty. This role will involve comprehensive training in customer interaction and administrative tasks. Daily responsibilities may include managing front desk operations, handling phone inquiries, and assisting the division office as required.

August 2024 - December 2024, with potential for extension

Homework Policy:

Occasional

Available Hours:

Dependent on assignment, ranging from 5 to 15 hours weekly.

Flexibility in Scheduling:

Student schedules will vary based on accepted assignments. Once a schedule is established, students are expected to adhere to it with minimal changes.

Position Responsibilities:

Cover desk areas, work independently on various projects, manage workflow efficiently, and maintain confidentiality.

Key Duties and Learning Outcomes:

  • Welcome and guide students and visitors to appropriate offices based on their needs.
  • Assist with office tasks such as filing, scanning, shredding, and copying.
  • Manage incoming calls and direct them to the relevant departments.
  • Ensure the Faculty Office remains organized.
  • Maintain paper supplies in copiers and student lounges.
  • Check and replenish pencil supplies as necessary.
  • Keep the workspace tidy, including drawers and desktops.
  • Run office errands when required.

Candidate Requirements:

Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours during the Fall and Spring semesters. At the time of hiring, candidates should have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or be in their first semester at Oakton. Proof of eligibility to work in the United States is required. Candidates should demonstrate satisfactory progress toward their educational objectives.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Able to stand and sit for extended periods.
  • Demonstrated reliability and responsibility.
  • Friendly, flexible, organized, courteous, and punctual.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Availability for some evening hours.
