Department Overview:

The N111 Future Space Capabilities Department is committed to providing strategic guidance and data-driven insights to support the Department of the Air Force and the US Space Force in designing, developing, acquiring, and integrating future space capabilities. Our goal is to stay ahead of emerging threats by advancing space system architectures and programs.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Lead Space Test and Evaluation Engineer, you will be recognized as a subject matter expert and a senior technical leader within MITRE, providing essential support to the US Space Force. Your extensive knowledge in Test and Evaluation (T&E) and systems engineering will be crucial in accelerating the delivery of resilient space systems. Your innovative leadership will play a key role in the success of our sponsors.

  • Act as the primary technical advisor for Test and Evaluation to the Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM), the Combined Test Force, and Space Systems Command.
  • Formulate a comprehensive strategy to guide T&E planning for ongoing initiatives supporting STARCOM and its associated sponsors.
  • Analyze and recommend enterprise requirements and resources necessary for STARCOM's test range and infrastructure.
  • Provide systems engineering expertise and agile process implementation to develop test concepts, plans, and events.
  • Conduct analyses and offer recommendations on T&E processes, metrics, and procedures.
  • Lead the development of Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) measures and oversee the creation of Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMP).
  • Facilitate operational test readiness reviews (OTRR) to ensure preparedness.
  • Identify gaps in testing capabilities and suggest improvements and new developments in test infrastructure.
  • Advise on funding strategies and capability roadmaps for annual investments.
  • Leverage MITRE's technical expertise to address testing challenges and enhance execution.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Over 5 years of experience in systems engineering and test & evaluation.
  • Familiarity with the JCIDS process and DoD test and evaluation protocols.
  • Proven ability to analyze data and present findings to senior decision-makers.
  • Understanding of the roles and responsibilities within the USSF and space acquisition sectors.
  • Possession of a TS/SCI level security clearance, with the capability to obtain Special Access Program clearance.
  • This role requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Space Control T&E.
  • Knowledge of test range operations and infrastructure development.
  • Certification in Defense Acquisition Workforce: Test & Evaluation Level 3.
  • Current involvement in the Space Systems domain.
  • Previous experience within an operational space squadron or space system program office.

Clearance Requirements:

This position necessitates a Top Secret/SCI clearance, with the expectation to obtain a Special Access Program clearance within one year of hire.

Salary Range:

$138,500 - $173,000 - $207,500 annually.

Hybrid work model.
