The Information Systems and Cyber Division (ISCD) integrates cutting-edge information system technologies, including elastic compute clouds, containerization, microservices, real-time operating systems, and visualization frameworks, with expertise in cybersecurity, software architecture, software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, process enhancement, and software development. This enables us to deliver agile, resilient, and high-performance software-intensive systems to our intelligence community, Department of Defense, and civilian clientele.

Position Overview

As a Space Missions Systems Engineer within the C3 Engineering and Operations Department at The Aerospace Corporation, you will focus on applying these technologies to provide operationally-driven engineering solutions for space enterprise Command, Control, and Communications (C3) systems, missions, and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice to clients such as Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM), Space Systems Command (SSC), and Space Warfighting Analysis Center (SWAC) on technical methodologies, force design, systems engineering, and the integration of systems and capabilities.
  • Oversee the integration of capabilities from the Operational Test and Training Infrastructure (OTTI) Program Executive Office.
  • Ensure that system requirements are effectively translated into the system design, maintaining alignment across various systems to meet overarching objectives.
  • Evaluate and provide insights on critical documentation, including requirements, design alignments, verification and validation, test plans, and procedures.
  • Manage the integration of interconnected systems to ensure coherent evolution and operational functionality.
  • Develop analytical strategies and define tasks necessary to comprehend missile warning mission requirements and refine force designs.
  • Analyze mission data flows to support missile warning and tracking strategies, including data formats, latencies, and system interconnections.
  • Contribute to the modernization of ground systems and architectures for future space operations.
  • Collaborate across space missions and programs to identify common challenges and risks, providing enterprise-level recommendations.
  • Assemble analytic teams from Aerospace Engineering and Technology Group (ETG) specialists to tackle key technical challenges through data-driven analysis.
  • Engage effectively with external partners in integrated product teams, including government and contractor members, serving as an architectural thinker and thought leader.
  • Communicate technical issues and recommendations effectively to all levels of corporate management.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements for the Engineering Specialist - Systems Engineering role include:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, or a technical science from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in systems engineering, missile warning systems operations, or the development and analysis of missile warning systems.
  • Familiarity with missile warning and missile defense systems.
  • Experience with SSC, STARCOM, and SWAC clients.
  • Proven leadership in technical analyses.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • An active Secret security clearance, with eligibility for Top Secret SCI and SAP/SAR.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time.

For the Senior Engineering Specialist – Systems Engineering position, additional requirements include:

  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in systems engineering, missile warning systems operations, or the development and analysis of missile warning systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership in systems engineering on previous programs.

Preferred Qualifications

It would be advantageous to possess one or more of the following:

  • An advanced degree in engineering, mathematics, or a technical science from a recognized institution.
  • Certification in agile methodologies, project management, or a related field.
  • Experience managing geographically dispersed teams.
  • Proficiency in software development using object-oriented programming languages (C++, Python, Java, etc.).
  • Experience in other mission areas such as Space Domain Awareness (SDA), intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), command and control (C2), satellite communications (SATCOM), or space data transport.
  • Experience with projects that utilized digital engineering or model-based systems engineering.
  • An active Top Secret security clearance with SCI access and/or SAP/SAR access.
