Automation Controls Specialist

NESCO Inc. is seeking to enhance its engineering department by adding three skilled Controls Engineers. In this role, you will deliver technical proficiency with an emphasis on both innovative and established product development, as well as process and production operations. It is essential to keep upper management informed of any challenges or concerns by executing the following responsibilities:

  1. Project Management: Develop and oversee a comprehensive engineering timeline for all initiatives. Lead, coordinate, and guide team members to meet all objectives outlined in the master schedule.
  2. Equipment Specification: Draft specifications for equipment and tooling, manage the design, construction, installation, and commissioning of new systems in alignment with the master schedule.
  3. Documentation: Prepare all necessary documentation for capital investments and secure approval from senior management.
  4. Manufacturing Processes: Establish production methods that achieve all key performance indicators (KPIs) related to capital investment, cost efficiency, product performance, delivery timelines, layout, cycle time, safety, ergonomics, and quality standards.
  5. Process Documentation: Generate all relevant documentation for processes, including specifications, PFMEAs, risk assessments, process plans, PFDs, work combination tables, design reviews, trial reports, work instructions, condition standards, and capacity tracking.
  6. Continuous Improvement: Lead and support Kaizen initiatives post-production.
  7. Defect Prevention: Actively work to create processes that minimize defects and implement countermeasures for those that do occur.
  8. Problem Solving: Utilize root cause analysis to investigate and resolve issues.
  9. Compliance: Ensure all tasks are performed in accordance with OSHA, EPA, and client protocols and best practices.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not entail supervisory duties.

Qualifications:
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
  • Expertise in programming and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and electronic control circuits.
  • Ability to develop complex PLC programs and design control circuits.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking protocols, including Ethernet and serial communication.
  • Experience with IAI's and six-axis robots.
  • Strong project management and leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to create technical presentations.
  • Familiarity with the Toyota Production System and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to high productivity.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.

Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and drafting software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks is necessary.

Mathematical Skills:
Strong understanding of advanced mathematical concepts for analysis and troubleshooting is essential.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions is critical.

Physical Demands:
This role requires regular use of hands for handling equipment and tools, as well as the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
