Job Overview

Toyoda Gosei is a leading employer in central Kentucky, specializing in advanced plastic and rubber technologies that enhance vehicle safety, comfort, and environmental sustainability. The Technical Engineering division encompasses various engineering disciplines aimed at refining and innovating production processes within a dynamic automotive manufacturing setting. The Automation and Integration team is dedicated to integrating cutting-edge technology with both purchased and custom-built components and machinery, ensuring the creation of safe and reliable production systems that uphold product quality and timely delivery.

Key Responsibilities

The essential duties of this role include, but are not limited to:

  1. Serve as the primary integrator for automation within the facility, providing expert guidance on automation initiatives involving robotics, collaborative robots, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), vision systems, and the programming and communication between various devices.
  2. Develop and oversee a comprehensive engineering schedule for all projects, coordinating and supervising team members to meet all objectives outlined in the master schedule.
  3. Proactively identify, assess, and implement automation enhancement projects.
  4. Create and document equipment designs and specifications, and manage the design, construction, installation, and commissioning of new equipment in accordance with the master schedule.
  5. Prepare necessary documentation for capital investments and secure approvals from senior management.
  6. Implement automation improvement processes that achieve all Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets, focusing on safety, ergonomics, cost efficiency, scrap reduction, performance, delivery, layout optimization, cycle time, efficiency, and quality assurance.
  7. Generate comprehensive documentation for the procurement, operation, and maintenance of equipment, including specifications, PFMEAs, risk assessments, process plans, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), work combination tables, design reviews, trial reports, work instructions, condition standards, spare parts lists, and capacity tracking.
  8. Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives post-production.
  9. Work proactively to develop processes that prevent defects from being passed to subsequent stages while implementing effective countermeasures for those that do.
  10. Conduct problem-solving activities and root cause analysis to address issues effectively.
  11. Perform all tasks safely in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company procedures and best practices.
Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in equipment design, construction, and integration.
  • Proficient in programming and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and electronic control circuits.
  • Ability to develop complex PLC programs from the ground up and design/build associated control circuits.
  • Strong understanding of networking protocols, including Ethernet, CC-Link, and serial communication.
  • Experience in programming and instructing single-axis linear servos and six-axis robots.
  • Proficient in writing macros and managing IP addressing.
  • Effective communication skills for directing requirements with customers and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated project management and leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to create technical presentations and documents.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, identify critical characteristics, lead design reviews, and develop PFMEAs.
  • Capability to lead root cause analysis for current and potential issues.
  • Familiarity with Toyota Production System and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Strong work ethic, accountability for projects, and a commitment to maintaining high productivity levels.
  • High aptitude for learning engineering principles and new technologies.
  • Knowledge of TS and ISO standards is preferred.
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Experience in a multicultural work environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Visio, and MS Project.
  • Skilled in using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other 3D modeling software.
  • Experience with Mitsubishi, Keyence, Fanuc, and Kawasaki products is preferred.
