Patient Registration Coordinator

The Patient Registration Coordinator plays a crucial dual role encompassing Patient Registration and Emergency Room Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) responsibilities. This position is essential for ensuring the accurate registration and pre-registration of diverse patient categories, including inpatient admissions, outpatient services, emergency care, and same-day surgical procedures.
Work Schedule
The current work schedule is as follows (subject to adjustments):
- Nights .7 Schedule (56 hours biweekly) - 4-week rotation:
- Week 1: Wednesday to Thursday, 10:45 PM - 7:15 AM
- Week 2: Monday to Friday, 10:45 PM - 7:15 AM; Saturday to Sunday, 10:45 PM - 7:15 AM
- Week 3: Wednesday to Thursday, 10:45 PM - 7:15 AM
- Week 4: Monday to Tuesday, 10:45 PM - 7:15 AM; Friday to Sunday, 10:45 PM - 7:15 AM
Key Responsibilities
Job Summary:
This role is responsible for facilitating the financial clearance process within patient access, which includes scheduling and registration tasks, verifying insurance eligibility, and managing point-of-service collections. The Patient Registration Coordinator is expected to foster a welcoming atmosphere and provide an outstanding experience for patients, families, and other stakeholders. This position requires clear communication to ensure that patients and their families understand their visit expectations and responsibilities. Additionally, the role involves coordinating phone consultations for healthcare providers and assisting with patient transfers as needed. The coordinator is also responsible for handling phone inquiries, faxing, copying, and printing documents, as well as directing calls to the appropriate departments promptly.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year of customer service experience, preferably in a clinical environment with exposure to healthcare, insurance, registration, coding, or medical records.
- Proficient computer skills with at least one year of relevant experience.
- High School diploma, GED, or post-secondary education.
- Ability to utilize multiple computer systems concurrently.
- Familiarity with various health insurance plans as per patient accounting department guidelines.
- Understanding of Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) regulations and department policies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and adept at using email and internet applications.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in task completion.
- Basic computer skills, including navigation in Windows and Outlook.
- Data entry proficiency for processing and managing information.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills to build rapport with customers and colleagues.
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures, including word processing and records management.
- Strong organizational skills for managing projects and prioritizing workloads.
- Ability to compile, organize, and manage both printed and electronic information.
