The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) is excited to announce the availability of sign-on bonuses for new engineering professionals.

At DNREC, we acknowledge that our engineers are invaluable assets, playing a pivotal role in safeguarding public health and the environment. To attract top talent, we are offering monetary recruitment incentives as part of our Recruitment Program Policy.

Incentive Structure:

Sign-On Bonuses are available based on the classification of the position:

  • $4,000 for Engineer I
  • $5,000 for Engineer II
  • $6,000 for Engineer III
  • $7,000 for Engineer IV

These incentives will be disbursed in two payments: the first after three months of employment and the second after eighteen months. New hires accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment within the Engineer classification series.

Overview of Responsibilities

The Division of Air Quality is responsible for monitoring and regulating air emissions. This includes issuing construction and operational permits for air contaminant sources, maintaining emission inventories, and developing the State's implementation plan as mandated by the Clean Air Act.

We are looking to fill two positions that will focus on enhancing air quality and integrating environmental considerations into transportation planning and initiatives. These roles will involve:

  • Formulating environmental policies and air quality regulations.
  • Designing implementation strategies aimed at achieving sustainable emission reductions.
  • One position will emphasize clean transportation and offshore wind energy, while the other will concentrate on the Diesel Emission Reduction Act grant program.

Key Responsibilities

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating and modifying engineering designs, plans, and specifications.
  • Reviewing permit applications and designs to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Applying scientific and mathematical principles to develop solutions for technical challenges.
  • Conducting field studies and inspections to gather data and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Testing and evaluating materials, systems, and facilities.
  • Coordinating engineering projects and reporting on their status.
  • Estimating project costs and providing technical guidance to staff.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree in one of the following engineering disciplines: Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering, or have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
