Position Overview:
The Environmental Specialist role is crucial at the Newport facility. This position is accountable for ensuring compliance with Sun Chemical's standards and the requirements set forth by regulatory agencies regarding Environmental Health and Safety (EHS).
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure adherence to all Environmental Health and Safety regulations applicable to Sun Chemical and the governing authorities.
• Establish, maintain, and enhance the environmental management systems, including sustainability reporting, Title V air permitting, and wastewater & stormwater management.
• Actively support and engage in process safety and occupational safety initiatives.
• Collaborate with the EHS Team Leader, site managers, and supervisors to formulate and execute comprehensive EHS improvement strategies, fostering a culture of urgency and advocacy within the organization.
• Assist in the establishment and monitoring of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure ongoing enhancement of essential EHS processes and overall performance metrics.
• Provide guidance and insights to plant personnel on EHS-related matters.
• Oversee the regular review and updating of site-specific Environmental, Health, and Safety Guidelines.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS within a manufacturing context.
• Extensive knowledge of regulatory compliance systems, permitting processes, and occupational safety programs.
• Proven track record in tracking and reporting sustainability initiatives.
• Strong independent thinker with the ability to visualize, design, and implement systematic EHS enhancements.
• Excellent leadership, teamwork, interpersonal communication, customer focus, and results-oriented skills.
