The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) values its Engineers as essential contributors to safeguarding public health and the environment. To acknowledge this, we are offering financial recruitment incentives to new Engineers in line with our Recruitment Program Policy.

Incentive Structure:

Sign-On Bonuses are categorized by position level:

  • $4,000 for Engineer I
  • $5,000 for Engineer II
  • $6,000 for Engineer III
  • $7,000 for Engineer IV

These bonuses are disbursed in two payments: the first after three months of service and the second after eighteen months. New hires accepting this incentive must commit to a two-year tenure within the Engineer classification series.

Overview of Responsibilities

The Division of Air Quality is tasked with monitoring and regulating air emissions. This includes issuing construction and operational permits for air contaminant sources, maintaining emission inventories, and developing the State's implementation plan as mandated by the Clean Air Act.

We are looking to fill two positions under this announcement. Both roles will focus on enhancing air quality and integrating environmental considerations into transportation planning and decision-making processes. Responsibilities include:

  • Creating environmental policies and air quality regulations.
  • Designing implementation strategies aimed at achieving sustainable emission reductions.
  • One position will emphasize clean transportation and offshore wind energy initiatives, while the other will concentrate on the Diesel Emission Reduction Act grant program.

Career Advancement

Employees who meet departmental promotional standards and job requirements may be eligible for advancement to higher levels.

Key Responsibilities

Essential functions include:

  • Drafting and modifying engineering designs, plans, and specifications.
  • Reviewing permit applications and designs for compliance with regulations.
  • Applying scientific and mathematical principles to solve technical challenges.
  • Conducting field studies and inspections to gather data and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Testing materials, systems, and facilities.
  • Coordinating engineering projects and reporting on their status.
  • Estimating project costs and providing technical guidance to staff.

Qualifications

Applicants for the Engineer I position must demonstrate competence in the following areas:

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering, or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
