Role Purpose:
The Environmental Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) Manager is tasked with the creation, execution, and maintenance of EHSS initiatives to safeguard the well-being of employees, visitors, and contractors, while also ensuring environmental protection and adherence to all relevant EHSS regulations. This role involves collaborating with management and various stakeholders to foster sustainable EHSS performance and compliance. The EHSS Manager will implement standards, provide technical guidance, and engage in project management and due diligence related to acquisitions and EHSS matters. Additionally, the manager will develop a predictive analysis program to identify risks and propose preventive measures to mitigate potential hazards. The role also encompasses deploying safety, security, industrial hygiene, and environmental processes aimed at continuous improvement in EHSS stewardship, focusing on accident prevention, hazard elimination, and minimizing environmental impacts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct risk assessments and manage the development and implementation of EHSS risk reduction strategies.
- Design and execute EHSS program components, including coaching and supporting efforts to enhance supervisor and employee behaviors.
- Oversee and perform EHSS audits and site inspections.
- Monitor training compliance and provide management with reports.
- Deliver EHSS training sessions and develop training resources while providing field coaching.
- Establish and implement a behavioral-based safety program tailored to specific project needs.
- Manage event investigations and reports, coordinating with workers' compensation teams.
- Assist in the review, update, and development of corporate EHSS standards and procedures.
- Provide EHSS due diligence for new business ventures and support for project startups.
- Maintain EHSS data, review OSHA logs, and prepare periodic EHSS reports.
- Coordinate industrial hygiene support as needed.
- Assist in the formulation of EHSS budgets and goal-setting for the business unit.
- Office setting with daily exposure to water treatment environments, including potential exposure to chemicals and operational equipment.
- Field visits may involve working in traffic settings and exposure to various weather conditions.
- Noise levels may vary around heavy machinery and treatment facilities, necessitating hearing protection.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- 5-7 years of relevant experience in EHSS compliance.
- Experience in the construction sector and familiarity with the water and wastewater industries.
- Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong capabilities in writing, coaching, and teaching.
- Ability to manage changing priorities effectively.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills.
- Proficient in Google applications, including Sheets, Docs, Gmail, and Slides.
- In-depth knowledge of safety and environmental regulations and industry standards.
- Willingness to work in the field and support safety, health, security, and environmental compliance.
- Availability for emergency response and extended work hours as needed.
- Ability to utilize Personal Protective Equipment as required.
- Valid driver's license is required.
- OSHA Training Institute authorization as an instructor on OSHA Standards for general industry.
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or the ability to obtain this designation.
- CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager).
- Certifications from AWWA and other recognized safety organizations related to hazardous materials and safety training.
