Job Overview

Rocha Controls is a comprehensive service provider focusing on supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, computer networking, programmable logic controllers (PLC), telemetry, instrumentation, and installations of variable frequency drives and motor control centers. We are in search of a proactive and skilled Senior Electrical Control Systems Engineer to enhance our operations and guide our current design team.

The Senior Electrical Control Systems Engineer will collaborate with a team of seasoned electrical engineers and designers, along with other interdisciplinary professionals, including process, mechanical, and civil engineers. These teams are dedicated to both public works and private sector projects for water treatment facilities, which generally encompass designs for pump stations, skid-mounted treatment systems, switchgear, motor control centers, standby and emergency power systems, roadway and area lighting, underground conduit systems, cable tray systems, and more.

Key Responsibilities

- Evaluate designs from both experienced and junior engineers to ensure quality control and compliance with UL standards.

- Develop comprehensive shop drawings and instrumentation submittals, including I&C system designs and calculations for utility services, standby power generation, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, conduit and cable schedules, and electrical system designs (lighting, instrumentation, PLC/RTU control and monitoring, and communications), along with detailed design calculations and preparation of EI&C specifications for low to medium voltage electrical systems.

- Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with engineers and clients regarding technical inquiries related to projects.

- Provide assistance to shop personnel with any technical queries.

- Mentor and guide the electrical assistant in gathering necessary submittal information and preparing submittal copies.

- Maintain effective communication with clients, internal team members, and suppliers.

- Engage in hands-on mechanical, electrical, and controls work as required, demonstrating a solid understanding of standard industry tools and safety protocols.

- Ensure timely and budget-conscious project delivery.

- Contribute to the development of enhanced documentation, system features, designs, and code.

- Stay fully engaged and manage multiple assignments with strong prioritization skills.

- Travel to various sites to evaluate existing systems and formulate design plans based on those evaluations.

Project Management Duties

- Interpret client requirements, identify and resolve design parameters and engineering challenges, ensuring that solutions are implemented accurately and within budget through clear communication with clients.

- Navigate the electrical project execution lifecycle, with support and review from other electrical engineers as necessary, from concept development to detailed final design and construction phases. Provide engineering services during construction, including reviewing and responding to shop drawing submittals, requests for information (RFIs), change proposal requests, and coordinating with clients and other internal project managers.

Candidate Qualifications

- Extensive knowledge of control and electrical control panel design in water treatment applications.

- Proficient in the layout and specification of material handling equipment.

- Capability to design and specify control panels and control systems.

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

- Self-reliant and able to travel to sites for assessments and design planning.

- This role requires 0%-25% travel.

Education and Experience Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.

- At least 5 years of post-graduate experience in the conceptual and detailed design of electrical/instrumentation/control systems for water treatment facilities or general industrial controls. Compensation will reflect this qualification.

- Professional Engineer (PE) designation preferred - Compensation will reflect this qualification.

- Proficient with various software applications (AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Project Scheduling).

- Strong technical writing and communication capabilities.
