Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary: Responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, operating, servicing, and modifying various types of facility machinery, including abrasive blast systems and components such as compressors, electric motors, pumps, valves, and other mechanical elements. The goal is to maintain large equipment and systems at peak operational efficiency, swiftly identifying and rectifying malfunctions to minimize downtime, while ensuring maintenance activities cause minimal disruption to production and work schedules. This involves the removal, disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, repair, reassembly, and reinstallation of components like pumps, motors, controllers, compressors, burners, and valves. Proficiency in troubleshooting, aligning, adjusting, servicing, and repairing large industrial machinery is essential, along with a thorough understanding of the tools and equipment pertinent to this trade. The ability to respond effectively to emergency maintenance issues and adapt priorities as necessary is crucial, as is the capacity to determine the most efficient and cost-effective methods for repairs. A State of Kansas Backflow and Cross Connection certification is required.

Responsibilities include: Identifying and addressing issues affecting equipment functionality, performing comprehensive troubleshooting and repair of industrial air conditioning units, heat pumps, gas-fired boilers, split ventilation systems, and air drying systems. This includes diagnosing malfunctions, disassembling, repairing, replacing, or adjusting thermostats, pressure stats, humidistats, relays, switches, and electronic controls. Responsibilities also involve bleeding systems, replacing refrigerants, and testing for leaks and excessive load conditions. Observing and testing heating and cooling systems to locate malfunctions in automatic controls, piping, pumps, and related components is required. Inspections, adjustments, and necessary repairs or replacements of thermostats, governors, switches, and safety devices are also part of the role. Certification as a 'Technician Type Universal' and knowledge of HVAC systems and electronic/pneumatic controls are necessary.

Additional Duties: Testing, inspecting, and maintaining installed electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems to ensure proper operation and compliance with applicable technical orders, manufacturer guidelines, and safety regulations. This requires a working knowledge of various building systems, methods, and tools, as well as skills in repairing piping and removing harmful residues. Performing preventative maintenance tasks in accordance with technical data and local procedures is essential to prolong the life expectancy of all equipment and systems. This includes lubricating and repacking valves, aligning equipment, and testing repaired items for reliability.

Inspections and Repairs: Conducting inspections, maintenance, and repairs on structural and mechanical components of roll-up doors and overhead hoists, including rollers, guides, and limit switches. The ability to identify mechanical defects and perform cost-effective repairs is crucial. Additionally, providing guidance on lawn mower repair and maintenance as needed is part of the role.

Vehicle Operation: Operating government vehicles to transport materials, personnel, and tools to work sites. This requires adherence to speed limits and the ability to operate various motor vehicles, along with possessing a valid driver's license and maintaining a military driver's license.

Parts and Tools Management: Determining dimensions, sizes, quantities, and availability of required parts and materials. Maintaining tools and equipment, ensuring proper storage, and arranging for skilled trades personnel for major repairs when necessary. Good judgment in determining cost-effective methods and maintaining good working relationships with colleagues is essential.

Qualifications:

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with two years of training and/or experience in building or industrial maintenance and repair, including one year in building systems such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and electronic control repair. Minimum Qualifications: Physical ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 100 pounds, ability to work at heights, and normal color vision are required. Additional Requirements: The incumbent may be subject to occasional recall for emergency work and overnight travel.

Proficiency in using tools and operating equipment commonly used in maintenance and repair is essential, along with knowledge of safety precautions and processes for operating and maintaining mechanical and electrical equipment.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: A valid Driver's License is required, along with the ability to qualify for a military driver's license. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Security Clearance is also a condition of employment.
