We are seeking a talented Data Engineer to join our growing team. This position will be performed virtually from the individual's home office working on an EST time schedule.

Role Overview

BDR is committed to supporting the modernization of defense intelligence collection platforms. As a Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in evaluating, optimizing, and integrating current and future efforts. Your responsibilities will encompass identifying critical gaps and requirements, applying new and advanced methods, and advancing enterprise governance within this vital domain.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and operate data management systems tailored to the specific needs of intelligence operations.
  • Develop comprehensive strategies for how data is stored, accessed, utilized, integrated, and managed across diverse data regimes and digital systems.
  • Collaborate closely with data users to determine, create, and populate optimal data architectures, structures, and systems that meet their unique requirements.
  • Take ownership of planning, designing, and optimizing data throughput and query performance to ensure efficient and timely data access.
  • Assess and provide recommendations for backend database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, HPC, etc.), including their configuration and utilization to best support the organization's needs.
  • Optimize the entire data pipeline infrastructure to effectively handle content volume, ETL processes, and periodicity of data. This will ensure that the system can support the intended types of queries and analysis while maintaining expected responsiveness.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, applied mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Active Top-Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) eligibility.
  • 7+ years of demonstrated experience designing, developing, and implementing both structured and unstructured databases.
  • 5+ years of proven experience with extract, transform, load (ETL) operations, encompassing on-premises and/or cloud infrastructure.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with relational and non-relational database technologies, including SQL, HPC, etc.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated expertise in data warehousing, querying, schema design, and data management.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience working within an intelligence agency environment.
  • 5+ years of experience developing and translating computer algorithms into prototype code.
  • Experience in developing and deploying large-scale batch and stream analytics pipelines.
  • Proven ability to develop and present complex technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
