Position Overview:
Under the direct guidance of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting with prescription fulfillment, billing processes, patient payment collection, and inventory management.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in site meetings to discuss patient care and operational needs, fostering effective communication.
  • Manage prescription data entry, ensuring accurate patient information and insurance details are recorded in the pharmacy system.
  • Process insurance claims and address any rejections promptly.
  • Prepare medication labels with precision and clarity.
  • Accurately count and measure medications.
  • Handle billing and payment transactions from customers and third-party payers.
  • Ensure accurate completion of cash and insurance transactions.
  • Calculate prescription costs and pricing accurately.
  • Collect payments from patients and provide receipts.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of pharmacy supplies.
  • Receive and verify vendor orders, ensuring proper documentation and stock management.
  • Conduct timely and accurate inventory assessments.
  • Communicate with third-party insurers regarding eligibility and setup for pharmacy services.
  • Address drug rejections and inquiries with third-party insurers.
  • Support pharmacy compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
  • Initiate contact with healthcare providers for prescription clarifications.
  • Maintain accurate records for drugs dispensed through patient assistance programs.
  • Manage the return of expired drugs and ensure proper documentation for credits.
  • Assist in mentoring new pharmacy technicians on operational processes.
  • Support record-keeping and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Facilitate communication of drug file updates to all pharmacy locations.
  • Assist pharmacy management with personnel coverage and scheduling needs.
  • Perform additional administrative tasks as assigned by the pharmacist.

Qualifications:
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:
  • Preferred one year of experience in a retail pharmacy setting.

Certification/Licensure:
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Florida Board of Pharmacy.
  • Certification from PTCB or NHA is preferred.
  • A valid Florida Driver's License is required.

Special Skills:
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is advantageous.

Additional Requirements:
  • Flexibility to work varied hours as needed.
  • Willingness to travel to different locations as required.
