In this role, the selected candidate will focus on establishing, promoting, and sustaining safety, health support, and loss prevention within the Department of Public Works. Reporting to the Director's Office, this position collaborates with the City's Risk Management and Occupational Safety and Health team to ensure the consistent application of city-wide policies, programs, and procedures.

As a partner in Occupational Safety and Health, you will participate in cross-departmental meetings and support collaborative city-wide initiatives to foster a strong working relationship with the Risk Management team. As a departmental OSH Analyst, your responsibilities will include providing technical support, conducting investigations into occupational injuries and vehicle accidents, delivering safety and health training, performing field inspections, identifying safety and security concerns, reporting on job-related injuries, and ensuring compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations. You will also be tasked with providing feedback on city policies and procedures, making recommendations, inspecting work sites and facilities, creating and following up on work orders to rectify identified issues, conducting indoor air quality assessments, and participating in or leading departmental safety committee meetings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead initiatives across the department regarding safety, health, and environmental matters.
  • Conduct training sessions, investigate occupational and vehicle accidents, and perform field inspections at various facilities and construction sites.
  • Manage the City's safety programs by reporting job-related injuries, conducting accident investigations, overseeing safety training, and maintaining records.
  • Develop and implement safety training schedules and support divisions in maintaining training records.
  • Research and provide technical support on federal, state, and local safety policies and standards.
  • Contribute to the development of safety performance measures and communicate with senior management on relevant statistics.
  • Create an annual safety training calendar and provide regular updates on program execution.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual statistics for divisional reporting.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, or a related field.
  • Two years of professional experience in a relevant area.
  • A valid unrestricted North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
Preferred Skills
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state workplace insurance regulations and OSHA standards.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present policies and training programs to diverse audiences.
  • Capability to recommend, develop, and implement safety goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in standard office and computer equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Experience with safety awards programs and certifications is a plus.
