ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

World Relief is a worldwide Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to creating lasting change both domestically and internationally. With a legacy spanning approximately 75 years, we have operated in over 100 countries since our inception.

In the United States, we collaborate with local churches, community organizations, and thousands of individual volunteers to assist newly arrived refugee and immigrant families. Currently, we are proud to partner with over 6,000 local churches and 95,000 volunteers globally to bring hope, healing, and transformation to those in need.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Are you a compassionate individual? An advocate for justice? Do you stand up for the rights of the vulnerable and speak out for the marginalized, the exploited, and the forgotten? If you resonate with our mission to welcome the least of these and love our neighbor, then World Relief needs you.

We are seeking a Senior Employment Specialist to oversee World Relief Durham's job placement services for newly arrived and ORR eligible refugees in the Triangle region of North Carolina, through the Matching Grant and Refugee Support Services programs. The Senior Specialist will build and maintain relationships with employers, prepare and place refugees in suitable job opportunities, and provide follow-up services post-placement. This role also involves supervising two Employment Coordinators, ensuring that all job placement services are executed with excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outreach to local employers to create job opportunities for refugees seeking initial employment in the United States.
  • Assist refugees enrolled in the Refugee Support Services and Matching Grant programs in preparing for employment through coaching and Job Readiness training.
  • Facilitate appropriate job placements for refugees enrolled in the programs.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop and implement individualized employment service plans.
  • Perform follow-up with clients and employers post-placement to address concerns and ensure job retention.
  • Maintain accurate records of services and client data, including notes and database entries.
  • Provide structured coaching to job seekers who may not be in compliance with program requirements.
  • Other related tasks as assigned.
Leadership and Supervision:
  • Provide ongoing training and supervision for Employment Coordinators.
  • Oversee case distribution among the job development team.
  • Monitor performance outputs and ensure accuracy and timeliness of data entry and record-keeping.
  • Evaluate job placements to confirm suitability and potential for self-sufficiency.
  • Reassign clients back to Employment Coordinators when initial placements do not meet self-sufficiency goals.
  • Collaborate with the Employment Manager to conduct ongoing program evaluation and improvement.
Qualifications:
  • Strong cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Fluent in English with excellent oral and written communication skills; bilingual proficiency in a language relevant to WRD's service population is preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Enjoy working in a dynamic, challenging, and multicultural environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to enhance office functions independently.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated personal Christian faith.
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief.
  • Desire to empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities.
  • Able to affirm World Relief's Core Beliefs and Statement of Faith.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in employment services.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to transport clients as needed.
  • Experience in refugee employment services.
  • Excellent administrative and communication skills.
