Role Overview

Avalara is on the lookout for a business-oriented Lead Business Analytics Specialist to become a vital part of our Global Analytics and Insights team. Reporting directly to the Director of Business and Customer Analytics, you will deliver analytical insights that facilitate the implementation of best practices in customer lifecycle management. Your role will involve generating comprehensive insights that underpin go-to-market strategies, developing scalable models, and guiding decisions related to new acquisitions, products, and channels.

This unique opportunity offers creative latitude in deriving insights, collaboration with partners across various global teams, and a direct impact on our strategic roadmap. This prominent position will significantly contribute to the expansion of our business.

  • Collaborate with Marketing, Strategy, and Customer Success teams on various Sales and Marketing initiatives; provide clear, coherent, and holistic recommendations based on analytical results.
  • Conduct in-depth analytical investigations, monitor, and enhance performance across multiple departments.
  • Design and execute testing strategies aimed at improving individual performance across different channels.
  • Integrate data from third-party sources and develop Machine Learning algorithms to create propensity and value models for diverse products and regions.

Qualifications for Success

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in analyzing large, complex data sets and translating data insights into actionable recommendations.
  • A data-centric background with a degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or Mathematics.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and Excel (including advanced macros); experience with visualization tools like Tableau and building statistical models.
  • Experience in presenting insights to senior executives and evaluating the effectiveness of recommendations by tracking their impact.
  • Above all, a strong comfort level with data—ability to manipulate, question its validity, interpret it, and formulate recommendations based on it.
