St. Joseph Center has been dedicated to serving low-income and homeless individuals and families since 1976. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we provide essential support without regard to religious affiliation, focusing on comprehensive case management and integrated social services. Annually, we assist approximately 6,000 individuals in the Venice, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, and surrounding areas.

Role Summary

We are seeking a Chief People and Culture Officer to spearhead the vision and strategy for our talent management initiatives. This role is crucial in ensuring that St. Joseph Center attracts, nurtures, and retains a diverse and exceptional leadership team, thereby enhancing our positive impact on the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Talent Management (25%)
    Develop and implement a comprehensive talent acquisition strategy to attract diverse candidates aligned with our mission. Facilitate the hiring process by collaborating with managers to establish effective recruitment practices.
  • Employee Engagement and Development (25%)
    Support leadership in optimizing performance management systems, fostering individual development plans, and ensuring alignment with organizational values.
  • Retention Strategies (25%)
    Design and implement competitive compensation strategies to retain top talent. Establish metrics to monitor staff retention and oversee the offboarding process, ensuring valuable insights are gathered.
  • Compliance and Operational Excellence (15%)
    Stay informed about employment laws and ensure compliance with regulations. Enhance our HR systems for improved efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Cultural Leadership (10%)
    Serve on the Executive Team to set organizational priorities and cultivate a culture of accountability and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective human resources processes.
  • Strong knowledge of HR functions, including benefits administration and compliance.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or HR certifications preferred.
