Position Title: Building Engineer

Work Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday, 9AM – 5:30PM

Compensation: Hourly rate commensurate with experience

Job Overview: The Building Engineer is responsible for the operation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within the facility. This role requires physical stamina to handle heavy equipment and work in varying environmental conditions. The engineer will respond to service requests and emergencies, ensuring all preventive maintenance tasks are completed efficiently. A clean and safe work environment is paramount, and the engineer will oversee utility mechanics and contractors to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the operation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and control systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and respond to on-demand work orders as assigned.
  • Ensure all maintenance procedures are performed correctly and efficiently.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition, reporting any necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Oversee water treatment programs for all systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Keep engineering and maintenance areas organized and clean.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service to staff, tenants, and vendors.
  • Familiarize with building access points, utility shutoffs, and safety systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including filter changes and lubrication.
  • Conduct plumbing repairs and maintenance as needed.
  • Document all maintenance activities and maintain accurate records.
  • Supervise external contractors and ensure quality of work.
  • Request materials and supplies necessary for repairs.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in HVAC or facilities engineering.
  • Certification in relevant mechanical trades or completion of an HVAC program.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Proven experience in maintaining building systems, including electrical and plumbing.
  • Basic carpentry skills are preferred.
  • Knowledge of fire safety systems and emergency generators.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy objects and working in confined spaces.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform maintenance tasks in various environments, including exposure to noise, heat, and cold.

Work Environment:

  • Work primarily conducted indoors and on rooftops.
  • Exposure to varying environmental conditions is expected.
  • Some tasks may require confined space entry.
