Converting Supervisor


SUMMARY:

The Converting Utility is responsible for managing all tasks related to the operation of the unitizer and slitter, including setup, operation, maintenance, and suggesting enhancements to processes.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Learn to operate various machinery (Unitizer and Slitter).
  • Input data into systems to adjust machine settings for order modifications, including scores, speed, stack height, sheet count, and number of outs.
  • Verify the accuracy of computer data.
  • Execute order modifications.
  • Cross-reference the produced board with the corrugator dry end lineup or order scheduling system to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Conduct visual inspections and physical checks for quality, including:
    • Cracked scores
    • Cut liner or medium
    • Loose edges or liner
    • Oil, blisters, wrinkles, washboard, warp
    • Clean slits, proper score depth, and appearance
  • Perform soak tests as required.
  • Adjust slitter settings for the next run to prevent overruns or underruns.
  • Set up tear-tape machinery and preprint as necessary.
  • Communicate necessary adjustments to the wet end.
  • Safely clear jams and assist in resolving other issues.
  • Operate the unitizer and related equipment, ensuring accurate placement of bands and stretch wrap.
  • Ensure proper tagging and stacking of units.
  • Scan barcodes on units processed through the unitizer.
  • Optimize equipment use by operating machinery at maximum capacity and speed.

REPORTING:

Complete necessary reports accurately and promptly, including Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, and Quality Data.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED is required.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior experience in the corrugated industry.
  • 6 months of experience in the Press or Finishing Department.
  • Previous experience as a forklift operator.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters.


MATH SKILLS:

Ability to read a tape measure accurately and calculate figures such as percentages, measurements, volume, and rates.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or graphic form.


TECHNICAL SKILLS:

Knowledge of equipment design and capabilities for efficient operation, product layouts, production specifications, and quality standards.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Regularly required to stand, walk, and communicate. Frequently required to use hands, reach, and stoop. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet conditions, and high noise levels.


PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS:

Performance will be evaluated based on operating standards, personal growth, employee relations, and creativity.
