POSITION TITLE: Converting Utility - 2nd Shift

REPORTS TO: Converting Supervisor
SUMMARY
The Converting Utility is accountable for all tasks related to the operation of the unitizer and slitter, along with associated machinery. This includes setup, operation, cleanup, and proposing enhancements to operational processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Acquire proficiency in operating various equipment, specifically the Unitizer and Slitter.
- Input data into systems to adjust machinery for order modifications, including scores, speed, stack height, sheet count, and number of outs.
- Ensure the accuracy of data entered into the system.
- Implement order modifications as required.
- Cross-verify the board being produced with production schedules to confirm it meets specifications for test, size, scores, depth, color, and coating.
- Conduct visual inspections and physical checks for quality assurance, including identifying defects such as cracked scores, improper cuts, and other quality issues.
- Perform soak tests as necessary.
- Adjust slitter settings for the next production run to prevent overruns or underruns.
- Prepare the tear-tape machine and preprint as required.
- Communicate necessary adjustments to the wet end team.
- Safely clear jams and assist in resolving other operational issues.
- Operate the unitizer and related equipment, ensuring correct application of bands and stretch wrap according to established techniques.
- Ensure proper tagging and stacking of units.
- Scan barcodes on units processed through the unitizer.
- Maintain neatness in unit formation with the correct number of bands.
- Maximize equipment utilization by operating machinery at optimal capacity and speed.
- Complete necessary documentation accurately and promptly, including production data, machine status, safety data, and quality metrics.
- Verify unit quantities for accuracy.
- Remove excess scrap from units.
- Safely operate a forklift when required.
- Submit maintenance requests for necessary repairs.
- Proactively maintain equipment.
- Adhere to production schedules and recommend optimizations to meet cost, quality, and service objectives.
- Report any unusual scheduling issues to the Supervisor.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety protocols and maintaining cleanliness.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned by management.
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Prior experience in the corrugated industry.
- At least 6 months of experience in the Press or Finishing Department.
- Experience as a forklift operator.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions on factory masters.
MATH SKILLS
Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform calculations involving percentages, measurements, volume, and rates. Familiarity with high school level math concepts.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense to follow instructions provided in written, oral, or graphic formats. Capability to address problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Knowledge of equipment design and capabilities to ensure efficient operation, understanding of product layouts and specifications, and adherence to quality standards.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This role requires regular standing, walking, and communication. Frequent use of hands for handling and reaching, with occasional sitting. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions, and occasional exposure to high places, fumes, and vibration. The noise level is typically loud.

Employee performance will be evaluated based on operating standards in quality, cost, safety, customer satisfaction, and productivity.
