POSITION TITLE: Production Equipment Operator - 2nd Shift

($21.64/hour)

REPORTS TO: Production Supervisor

SUMMARY

The Production Equipment Operator is responsible for managing all tasks related to the operation of the unitizer and slitter, along with associated machinery. This includes setup, operation, maintenance, and suggesting enhancements to improve efficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Acquire proficiency in operating various machinery (Unitizer and Slitter).
  • Input data into systems to adjust machinery settings for order modifications, including scores, speed, stack height, sheet count, and number of outs.
  • Ensure the accuracy of information entered into the system.
  • Implement order modifications as required.
  • Cross-verify the product being manufactured with production schedules to confirm it meets specifications for test, size, scores, depth, color, and coating.
  • Conduct visual inspections and physical checks of products for quality assurance, identifying issues such as cracked scores, cut liners, loose edges, and other defects.
  • Perform soak tests as necessary.
  • Adjust slitter settings to prepare for subsequent runs to prevent production discrepancies.
  • Set up tear-tape machinery and preprint as needed.
  • Communicate necessary adjustments to the production team.
  • Safely clear jams and assist in resolving operational issues.
  • Operate the unitizer and related equipment, ensuring proper application of bands and stretch wrap according to established procedures.
  • Verify correct placement of unit tags and cover sheets, adhering to stacking protocols.
  • Scan barcodes on units processed through the unitizer.
  • Ensure units are assembled neatly with the appropriate number of bands.
  • Maximize equipment utilization by operating machinery at optimal capacity and speed.
  • Complete required reports accurately and promptly, including Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, and Quality Data.
  • Confirm the accuracy of unit quantities.
  • Remove excess scrap from units.
  • Safely operate a forklift when necessary.
  • Submit maintenance requests for necessary repairs.
  • Actively participate in equipment maintenance.
  • Adhere to production schedules and recommend adjustments to optimize cost, quality, and service objectives.
  • Report any unusual scheduling challenges to the Supervisor.
  • Comply with all organizational policies and procedures, including safety protocols and maintaining cleanliness.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned by management.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED.
Candidates are PREFERRED who possess:
  • Previous experience in the corrugated industry.
  • At least 6 months of experience in the Press or Finishing Department.
  • Prior experience as a forklift operator.
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend instructions on production documentation.

MATH SKILLS

Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform calculations involving percentages, measurements, volume, and rates. Proficient in applying high school level math concepts.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense to follow instructions provided in written, oral, or graphic formats. Capable of addressing problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Must have a solid understanding of:
  • Equipment design and capabilities for efficient operation.
  • Product layouts and production specifications.
  • Quality standards and product specifications.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and communicate effectively. Frequent use of hands for handling or feeling, reaching with arms, and occasional sitting is required. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and frequently to wet and/or humid conditions. Occasional exposure to high places, fumes, airborne particles, and vibration may occur. The noise level in the work environment is typically loud.
