Position Overview

The Controls Engineer will report directly to the Director of Maintenance & Engineering. The primary focus will be on evaluating plant operations to enhance control systems and support production assets. Responsibilities include the design, construction, programming, testing, and troubleshooting of Aseptic Filling and Process Lines, as well as material handling systems within our facilities.

As part of a collaborative controls engineering team, this role will ensure the operational efficiency and safety of Aseptic manufacturing processes and filling systems. The engineer will act as a key resource for electrical controls, aiding in the development and troubleshooting of production equipment while fostering relationships with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to address production requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive support for machinery, including safety controllers, PLCs, HMIs, robotics, motion control systems, measurement instruments, material handling systems, industrial networks, and software applications for MES and data collection.
  • Adhere to plant electrical control standards in all tasks.
  • Engage in the Change Management Process to enhance company initiatives through performance improvements.
  • Plan and oversee upgrades, overhauls, and modifications of Aseptic Filling and Process Lines.
  • Deliver training on the operation and maintenance of Aseptic Filling and Process Lines.
  • Participate in after-hours support for the engineering team on a rotational basis.

Qualifications:
  • An Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical experience is required.
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of relevant experience in technical or operational roles is essential.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve issues effectively.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with operational and technical teams to establish project goals and optimize process performance.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage professionally with peers and customers.
  • Experience with Technical Service Providers and/or Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) is preferred.
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Familiarity with Rockwell Automation PLC and HMI systems is a plus.
  • Background in the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of processing and packaging equipment is advantageous.
  • Ability to work effectively in diverse environments, promoting an inclusive workplace culture.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • In-depth knowledge of Tetra Pak and/or Stork Aseptic filling equipment.
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical operations in Food Processing and Packaging systems.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Aseptic Processing and Packaging Systems.
  • Experience with Beckhoff Automation PLC and HMI systems.
  • Knowledge of robotics, particularly Fanuc systems.
  • Familiarity with motion control, VFD, and safety hardware.
  • Experience with vision inspection systems (Cognex, Keyence, etc.).
  • Knowledge of NFPA70, 70E, and 78 standards.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD software.
  • Understanding of FDA regulations and compliance.
