Job Overview

POSITION TITLE: Production Equipment Operator - 2nd Shift

($21.64 per hour)

LOCATION: Lathrop, CA

REPORTS TO: Production Supervisor

SUMMARY

The Production Equipment Operator is responsible for managing all tasks related to the operation of the unitizer and slitter machinery, including setup, operation, maintenance, and suggesting enhancements to processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Acquire proficiency in operating various machinery (Unitizer and Slitter).
  • Input data into systems to adjust machinery for order modifications, including scores, speed, stack height, sheet count, and number of outs.
  • Ensure the accuracy of data entered into the system.
  • Implement order modifications as required.
  • Cross-verify the produced board with production schedules to confirm it meets specifications for test, size, scores, depth, color, and coating.
  • Conduct visual inspections and physical checks of the board for quality assurance, including identifying issues such as cracked scores, improper cuts, and other defects.
  • Perform soak tests as necessary.
  • Adjust slitter settings for upcoming runs to prevent overruns or underruns.
  • Prepare tear-tape machinery and preprint as required.
  • Communicate necessary adjustments to the wet end team.
  • Safely clear jams and assist in resolving operational issues.
  • Operate the unitizer and related equipment, ensuring proper application of bands and stretch wrap.
  • Ensure correct placement of unit tags and cover sheets, adhering to stacking protocols.
  • Scan barcodes on units processed through the unitizer.
  • Produce well-organized units with the appropriate number of bands.
  • Maximize equipment efficiency by operating machinery at optimal capacity and speed.
  • Complete necessary documentation accurately and promptly, including production data, machine status, safety records, and quality assessments.
  • Verify unit quantities are accurate.
  • Remove excess scrap from units.
  • Safely operate a forklift when required.
  • Submit maintenance requests for necessary repairs.
  • Proactively maintain equipment.
  • Adhere to production schedules and suggest optimizations to meet cost, quality, and service objectives.
  • Report any unusual scheduling challenges to the Supervisor.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, particularly regarding safety and cleanliness.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned by management.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED.
Candidates are PREFERRED who possess:
  • Previous experience in the corrugated industry.
  • At least 6 months of experience in the Press or Finishing Department.
  • Prior experience as a forklift operator.
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and follow instructions on factory masters.

MATH SKILLS

Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform calculations involving percentages, measurements, volume, and rates. Familiarity with high school level math concepts.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or graphic formats. Capable of addressing problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Knowledge of:
  • Equipment design and capabilities for efficient operation.
  • Product layouts and production specifications.
  • Quality standards and specifications.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
