The compensation for the selected candidate will be determined based on various factors, including departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated salary range reflects the University’s good faith estimate of potential compensation at the time of posting.

Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Sexual Violence Response, the Advocate for Survivors of Violence will deliver confidential and comprehensive support services tailored to the needs of individuals affected by gender-based violence. This role involves direct crisis intervention, advocacy, and trauma-informed care, ensuring that survivors are informed of their rights and options in alignment with applicable laws and institutional policies. The Advocate will act as a resource for individuals seeking information and services related to sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and stalking, providing around-the-clock crisis support as part of a collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities

Advocacy, Support, and Case Management (70%)

  • Deliver immediate crisis intervention and support services to survivors of gender-based violence.
  • Provide emergency assistance following incidents of violence or trauma, ensuring follow-up services are in place.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with New York Public Health Law and manage a secure database for tracking services and referrals.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to offer crisis intervention and advocacy to students in need.
  • Respond to critical incidents by providing on-site support at various locations as required.
  • Conduct ongoing case management to assess and address the needs of survivors.
  • Facilitate educational sessions on rights and available resources for survivors.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and other agencies to ensure comprehensive support for survivors.
  • Assist in training and supporting volunteers involved in crisis response.

Culturally Inclusive Services (10%)

  • Ensure that services are culturally competent and responsive to the diverse student population.
  • Advocate for traditionally underserved communities, ensuring equitable access to resources.

Collaboration and Outreach (15%)

  • Maintain communication with campus and community partners to streamline access to resources.
  • Provide consultation to faculty and staff regarding student needs and institutional policies.
  • Assist in the development of reports and materials to support outreach and education efforts.

Additional Duties (5%)

Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • At least three years of relevant experience in advocacy or crisis intervention.
  • Knowledge of support options for survivors and familiarity with the criminal justice system.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience in higher education settings.
  • Understanding of Title IX and related regulations.

Working Hours

  • Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation is required.
  • Evening and weekend availability is necessary.
