Sanctuary for Families is a premier organization in New York dedicated to supporting and advocating for individuals affected by domestic violence, sex trafficking, and various forms of gender-based violence. Our mission is to empower survivors and their families to transition from environments of fear and abuse to safe and stable lives through a wide array of services.

Role Summary

The Counselor will deliver ongoing, trauma-informed counseling services to adult survivors residing in the community, particularly focusing on non-shelter clients, including a significant number of Spanish-speaking individuals. The role involves assisting clients in managing their trauma and understanding the effects of domestic violence on their lives and their children. Additionally, the Counselor will support clients in achieving economic stability through case management, advocacy, and referrals to appropriate services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct evidence-based assessments and psychosocial evaluations for adult survivors of domestic violence, trafficking, and other forms of gender-based violence.
  • Provide comprehensive, trauma-informed individual and group counseling services, utilizing a trauma and strengths-based approach to facilitate healing and coping.
  • Engage in safety planning, crisis intervention, advocacy, case management, and referrals to related services as necessary.
  • Offer affidavits and legal testimony for immigration and other legal matters.
  • Conduct outreach and training related to trauma and domestic violence for community organizations and institutions.
  • Maintain accurate case documentation and utilize internal databases to track client services and outreach activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Organizational Collaboration

  • Establish and maintain a network of contacts with other social service agencies.
  • Collaborate with and refer clients to external counseling programs when appropriate.
  • Maintain open communication with clinical staff and other personnel from Family Justice Centers.
  • Work collaboratively with agency staff across various locations.

Qualifications

  • LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, or Limited Permit required.
  • Ability to work full-time in a hybrid model.
  • Experience in providing counseling and support services to survivors of domestic violence.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Familiarity with social services related to women's issues is highly desirable.
  • Fluency in a language other than English is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $67,584 - $74,655 annually, commensurate with experience, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
