Position Overview

A Senior Project Engineer is expected to undertake responsibilities similar to those of a Project Engineer. This role is designated for individuals who have successfully executed the duties of a Project Engineer, showcasing the potential for progression to an Assistant Project Manager position in the future, with a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience. Senior Project Engineers at Flintco support the Project Manager and Superintendent by executing specific administrative and technical assignments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager in drafting and reviewing subcontracts and purchase orders to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the scope of work, inclusion of necessary provisions, and correctness of contract amounts.
  • Thoroughly review Project Documents and familiarize oneself with Project participants (e.g., Architect, Owner, local authorities, Subcontractors, and Suppliers) to facilitate productive daily operations between the company and other stakeholders. Represent the company in project meetings as required.
  • Assist in identifying submittal requirements and preparing and maintaining a submittal log. Expedite materials and equipment from the pre-approval stage through final delivery to ensure timely arrival in accordance with the project schedule. This includes reviewing, correcting, and obtaining approvals on all submittals.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the overall project schedule and short-term schedules. Conduct regular site visits to observe and inspect that the project is being constructed correctly and is progressing on schedule.
  • Responsibilities may also include maintaining daily records and preparing and submitting weekly timesheets and/or prevailing wage payrolls to the payroll clerk.
  • Receive, evaluate, and disseminate correspondence, directives, questions, clarifications, and other information among the Owner, Architect, Subcontractors, and Suppliers to ensure timely responses to requested information, changes, and directives.
  • Assist in organizing project files and documentation, including transmittals, telephone conversations, submittals, letters, etc., ensuring that project documentation is systematic and complete to maintain a clear and accurate project history.
  • Assist in keeping estimated and actual cost records current and precise, tracking Subcontractor/Supplier and company self-performed work to justify billing.
  • When directed, expedite and obtain all necessary permits (building, occupancy, etc.) and ensure that all record documents (e.g., as-built drawings, operation & maintenance manuals, warranties, etc.) are received promptly to avoid delays in construction progress or payments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and directed by a supervisor or other authorized personnel.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Possess knowledge of methods and technology sufficient to determine proper construction sequencing, procurement planning, and review and correct submittals.

Ability to maintain, inform, and communicate effectively with the construction team.

Ability to make informed decisions on behalf of the company and recognize when to seek assistance from higher authority before making decisions.

Ability to accurately read and interpret construction drawings and specifications. Knowledge of and application skills in Geometry, Trigonometry, and Algebra. Proficient in using computers and standard company software. Comprehensive understanding of company policies and procedures.

Education

Associates Degree or Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Construction Management, or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and related experience.


Experience
2-3 years of experience in construction management, construction trades, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Occasionally, especially when managing multiple projects and during critical phases of projects, mental stress can be taxing.
  • May be required to work long hours for extended periods.

Special Job Dimensions

The office provides a safe and healthy work environment, is adequately heated and cooled, is free from exposure to extreme conditions, has appropriate lighting and office furnishings, and is smoke-free and drug-free.

While performing the duties of this position in the fabrication shop, warehouse, maintenance shop, or at a project site, the employee could be regularly exposed to various conditions, including, but not limited to:

moving mechanical parts; moving machinery; high, precarious places; close tight quarters; rough and sloped terrain; fumes or airborne particles; drilling and blasting activities; welding activities; toxic or caustic chemicals; the potential of falling rock; and outside weather conditions.

The employee may be occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is generally loud.

  • NOTE - Where allowed, employees in positions classified as "safety-sensitive" may face disciplinary action if they test positive for marijuana or its metabolites, even with a valid state medical marijuana license.
