Position Summary

The Lead Project Engineer will oversee a team of Engineers, Designers, Estimators, and Project Coordinators, both in-house and external, tasked with the planning, design, and management of significant water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This role is pivotal in managing capital projects exceeding $100 million annually, including a comprehensive water main replacement initiative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct a team of technical professionals to implement a statewide capital program, focusing on both linear and vertical water and wastewater projects.
  • Ensure the timely execution of capital planning to meet quarterly and annual financial targets.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Construction teams to monitor project progress and financial performance.
  • Prepare and manage contract bid documents and oversee the bidding process for capital projects.
  • Facilitate communication with regulatory agencies and local officials to secure necessary permits and approvals.
  • Conduct studies and prepare reports to assist management in strategic planning for future system enhancements.
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain technical expertise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, or Sanitary Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the water/wastewater utility sector.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a licensed Professional Engineer with project design responsibilities.
  • Registered P.E. in Texas or the ability to obtain licensure within six months of employment.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership capabilities to manage both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Proficiency in GIS, ACAD, Hydraulic Modeling, and various project management software.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily sedentary work with occasional travel to project sites.
  • Local travel may constitute up to 50% of the workweek.
