Salary Range: $200,000-$260,000 plus benefits

Organizational Mission: The South Central Family Health Center is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for the diverse community of inner-city Los Angeles by delivering affordable and comprehensive healthcare and education in a welcoming, multicultural environment. Our goal is to lead the healthcare sector in South Los Angeles, establishing ourselves as the premier provider and employer of choice, offering high-quality, affordable, efficient, and culturally responsive services.

Overview: Reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for implementing, managing, and evaluating clinic operations to ensure the effective delivery of culturally and linguistically appropriate services. The COO oversees the daily operations of the health center(s) and collaborates with the executive management team to fulfill the organization's vision through strategic plan implementation, ensuring that the mission, goals, and objectives are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the CEO to establish and drive the organizational vision and operational strategy.
  • Translate strategic goals into actionable steps for growth, including organization-wide goal setting and performance management.
  • Analyze internal operations to identify areas for process improvement.
  • Implement business strategies that align with both short- and long-term objectives.
  • Oversee company operations and employee productivity, fostering an inclusive culture that enables team members to thrive.
  • Ensure the effective delivery of all clinic services and manage daily operations and clinical staff.
  • Monitor site operations to ensure clinical productivity meets established standards and report progress to the executive team.
  • Work with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to manage provider schedules and the appointment scheduling process.
  • Coordinate with the CMO on the development and implementation of new clinical programs and operational modifications.
  • Review financial, billing, and reimbursement aspects of operations in collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
  • Participate in strategic planning and budgeting processes.
  • Act as a liaison with community clinic associations and governmental agencies.
  • Establish and oversee risk management and compliance programs.
  • Prepare for performance reviews, audits, and inquiries into clinic functions, ensuring timely responses to findings.
  • Maintain oversight of physical plant operations and supervise related staff and contracted agencies.
  • Collaborate with other executives to develop and execute major plans that align with company-wide goals.
  • Negotiate with other organizations regarding proposed actions.
  • Maintain relationships with relevant community and civic agencies.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of diverse funding sources.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Required: BA in public administration, public health, business administration, healthcare administration, law, or a related field. Preferred: MA in the same fields.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a managerial role as COO of a medium to large nonprofit, community clinic, or public sector organization. 5 to 10 years in healthcare delivery systems for uninsured and underinsured populations.
  • Skills: Knowledge of fiscal management, human resource management, governmental regulations, and compliance requirements. Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Preferred: Bilingual skills and experience in a large private/public healthcare organization or community clinic.
