Position Title: Facilities and Shop Supervisor

Department: Operations

Reports To: Operations Coordinator

Employment Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Supervision: Responsible for overseeing up to 1 corpsmember shop technician.


Key Responsibilities:

The Facilities and Shop Supervisor is tasked with comprehensive oversight of shop and facility operations. This includes managing the procurement, maintenance, and repair of all tools utilized by the Natural Resources Department, as well as providing structured training for qualified corpsmembers. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting routine maintenance and management of facilities.
  • Coordinating inspections and liaising with external service providers for ongoing maintenance and projects.
  • Overseeing repairs and performing light maintenance on vehicles.
  • Maintaining and repairing all hand and power tools.
  • Organizing tool storage and parking areas.
  • Tracking tool maintenance records and inventory.
  • Acquiring shop supplies and new tools.
  • Facilitating corpsmember training and certification.
  • Providing tool orientation for new corpsmembers.
  • Offering coverage for Natural Resources Crew Supervisors as needed.
  • Supervising corpsmembers on various projects.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • A strong commitment to supporting youth and environmental initiatives.
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring young individuals.
  • Ability to repair small engines and knowledge of hand and power tool safety.
  • Highly organized with the ability to work independently.
  • Capability to provide temporary coverage as a Natural Resources Crew Supervisor.
  • Willingness to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Proven conflict resolution and mediation skills.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within the first three months.
  • Clean driving record and ability to pass a driving examination.

Education and Experience:

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Two years of supervisory experience, particularly in youth development and project management.
  • Experience working with diverse youth from various backgrounds.
  • Associate's degree or vocational training in relevant fields such as natural resource management or mechanics.
  • Demonstrated community service and volunteer experience.
  • Conversational Spanish skills are advantageous but not mandatory.

Physical Requirements:

This position involves outdoor work around machinery, requiring physical stamina to navigate uneven terrain and lift objects up to 75 lbs. The role may also involve exposure to noise, fumes, and varying temperatures. The Facilities and Shop Supervisor must be capable of performing a range of physical activities including walking, standing, bending, climbing, and operating tools.
