Position Title: Facilities and Shop Supervisor
Department: Operations
Reports To: Operations Coordinator
Employment Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Supervision: Direct supervision of up to 1 corpsmember shop technician
Key Responsibilities:
The Facilities and Shop Supervisor oversees all aspects of facility and shop management. The role includes the procurement, maintenance, and repair of all hand and power tools utilized by the Natural Resources Department, along with providing structured, certified training for qualified corpsmembers. Responsibilities include:
- Routine upkeep and management of facilities
- Coordinating facility inspections and engaging external service providers for ongoing maintenance
- Overseeing repairs and performing light maintenance on vehicles
- Conducting routine maintenance and repairs on all hand and power tools
- Organizing tool storage and parking areas
- Maintaining inventory and tracking tool maintenance records
- Acquiring shop supplies and new tools
- Training and certifying corpsmembers
- Providing tool orientation for new corpsmembers
- Covering for Natural Resources Crew Supervisors as needed
- Supervising corpsmembers on construction and natural resource projects
- Performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
To excel in this role, candidates must effectively perform each essential duty. The following qualifications are necessary:
- Commitment to supporting young adults and environmental conservation
- Experience in supervising and training youth
- Ability to repair small engines
- Knowledge of hand and power tool safety and usage
- Highly organized and self-sufficient
- Capability to provide temporary coverage as a Natural Resources Crew Supervisor
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in challenging weather conditions
- Willingness to work in a dynamic and diverse environment
- Proven conflict resolution and mediation skills
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within the first three months
- Clean driving record and ability to pass driving assessments
Education and Experience:
A combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities is required. Typical qualifications include:
- Preferred two years of supervisory experience, particularly in youth development and project management
- Experience supervising youth from diverse backgrounds
- Associate's degree or vocational training in natural resource management, mechanics, construction, or a related field
- Experience in community service and volunteering, demonstrating a strong service ethic
- Conversational Spanish skills are a plus, but not mandatory
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands and work environment are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
The Facilities and Shop Supervisor works outdoors around equipment and machinery, navigating uneven terrain and steep inclines, with exposure to noise, fumes, and temperature extremes. The role may require lifting and moving objects weighing up to 75 lbs and carrying items for at least 1/2 mile. This position necessitates the use of visual and auditory protective equipment. Responsibilities include walking, standing, sitting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and using hands for operating tools and controls.
Benefits:
This position is hourly and non-exempt, eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, chiropractic care, a 403(B) retirement plan, and generous paid time off. Compensation ranges from $27.00 to $30.00 per hour, based on experience.
