Job Overview


As the Senior Vice President of Technology, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and guiding Wellmark's technological vision. Collaborating closely with the Chief Information Officer, you will be responsible for establishing strategic direction and providing comprehensive oversight of the organization's technology initiatives.

Your leadership will be instrumental in the development and execution of enterprise technology frameworks, data management systems, API integrations, and cloud solutions aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and fostering competitive advantages for Wellmark.

You will direct and manage Wellmark's technology offerings and delivery operations, ensuring that innovative IT solutions align with the strategic objectives of the organization.

Additionally, you will facilitate the operational collaboration between the Technology department and the broader organization, focusing on the delivery and management of IT solutions that drive efficiency and scalability.


Key Responsibilities:

Essential Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Technology, Business Administration, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Over 10 years of demonstrated expertise in strategic planning and aligning technology initiatives with business goals.

Proven experience in delivering technology solutions that support strategic business objectives; at least 5 years in senior leadership roles within a complex enterprise environment, including experience in mentoring and developing leaders and team members.

Skilled in defining the scope of projects and programs; establishing clear objectives and performance metrics.

Experience in successfully managing complex projects with diverse teams and collaborating effectively across various departments and levels.


Proficient in leveraging industry insights, technical knowledge, and relationship-building skills to establish credibility and collaborative partnerships with peers and stakeholders; adept at influencing corporate strategies through effective consulting.

A human-centered leadership style with extensive experience in building, motivating, and evaluating teams and complex initiatives.

A collaborative leader with a track record of fostering consensus and influencing decisions through strong relationships with executive management.

Demonstrated executive presence with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences, including board presentations.


Forward-thinking and adaptable, with a strong capacity for rapid learning; champions and leads change initiatives; analyzes outcomes for continuous improvement; embraces challenges.

Experience in planning and executing change initiatives while remaining responsive to evolving demands. Encourages innovation and creativity by empowering staff to tackle challenges.

A Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Strategy – Collaborate with senior leadership to formulate and implement the strategic business plan and operational objectives.

Oversee planning, execution, operations, financial management, vendor relations, staffing models, governance, metrics, and dashboards to ensure effective delivery of IT products and services to all stakeholders.


Enterprise Leadership - Provide strategic guidance and leadership to a team of professionals involved in enterprise planning, development, and operational functions that support Wellmark's strategic goals.

Communicate and cascade strategy and initiatives to team members, driving customer service excellence and supporting the achievement of divisional and overall company objectives.


Team Leadership - Lead and manage financial and human resources, focusing on coaching and mentoring employees and leaders, performance management, and departmental budgeting.

Define and oversee the strategic direction of Wellmark's Technology Strategy.

Guide the implementation of the technology strategy to position Wellmark as an industry leader, enhancing performance, scalability, and the utilization of technical assets in alignment with the company's products and services.

Transformation initiatives will enhance customer experience, operational processes, value propositions, and business models.

These transformations will positively influence both internal and external organizational capabilities.


Monitor key competitor activities and industry trends, proactively assessing their implications for Wellmark, particularly in relation to technological advancements that create economic and competitive value.

Possess a comprehensive understanding of the technology sector, including current and emerging policies, practices, and trends impacting the industry and business landscape.

Provide oversight for the execution of enterprise technology platforms and services.

Lead the strategy and implementation of enterprise architecture standards, cloud strategies, API platforms, and data management systems, focusing on optimizing organizational leverage while achieving strategic objectives.


Direct the organization's cloud strategy and services, aiming to enhance the adoption of leading cloud capabilities while optimizing costs, architecture, maturity, and security.

Provide expertise in the cloud computing landscape to elevate the technology division's capabilities and maturity, fostering innovation.


Oversee the technology division's reference architecture and engineering practices, ensuring alignment with corporate and technology strategies.

Drive the adoption of reference architecture and standards in line with organizational investment priorities while managing change and strategic risks.


Offer strategic direction to leaders and global teams managing complex, multi-functional initiatives and technology operations.

Mentor and develop talent to apply business acumen across a portfolio of IT products and initiatives.

Guide the team through the entire product lifecycle, focusing on maximizing customer value while managing risks and ensuring resilience and security.


Provide oversight for Communities of Practice (CoP) and Centers of Excellence (CoEs) that encompass key functions across the division, including user experience, business analysis, agile methodologies, product management, architecture, software engineering, quality assurance, and operational processes.

Enhance the maturity of disciplines in alignment with industry best practices.
