Your Role

As the Head of Mortgage Operations, your role is to oversee our mortgage division as they refine processes and protocols, implement service level agreements (SLAs), and maintain compliance with all mortgage regulations. You will also spearhead various innovative projects aimed at enhancing product delivery to our clients and streamlining operational workflows.

In the first month, you will:
  • Gain insights into our existing equity sharing agreement and the new mortgage product initiative.
  • Acquaint yourself with Unison's origination and operational workflows.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Complete the necessary education for Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) licensing.
In three months, you will:
  • Establish performance benchmarks for all team roles, implement regular coaching practices, and ensure all team members master current products.
  • Lead initiatives that foster a culture of compliance and quality.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and develop actionable plans to address them promptly.
  • Collaborate with leadership to create and track departmental success metrics (KPIs) that drive performance towards established objectives with a focus on regulatory adherence.
In six months, you will:
  • Expand the team, overseeing training and mentoring as new members develop skills and adapt to Unison's mortgage offerings.
  • Ensure full compliance with mortgage regulations and underwriting standards through the establishment of a secondary compliance oversight.
  • Implement routines that enhance departmental efficiency and accuracy to achieve and surpass funding targets.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead leaders in mentoring loan officers to consistently achieve or exceed funding targets.
  • Experience with variable compensation structures for the loan officer team, balancing base salary and commission.
  • Monitor calls and customer satisfaction metrics for coaching opportunities and trends.
  • Comfortably explain and instruct on Loan Estimates (LEs), Closing Disclosures (CDs), and mortgage documentation to newer loan officers and clients.
  • Address customer escalations, follow up on complaints, and recommend resolutions.
  • Document customer complaints and ensure follow-through on resolutions.
  • Conduct regular process evaluations to identify efficiencies that help meet goals while ensuring compliance with relevant mortgage laws and guidelines.
  • Review existing systems and procedures periodically, providing feedback to maximize efficiency and compliance.
  • Oversee and schedule annual continuing education for yourself and the team, ensuring completion aligns with business needs.
  • Conduct performance reviews, offering constructive feedback and making merit-based recommendations for raises and bonuses.
About You

You are an experienced mortgage professional with a proven track record in scaling production and shaping the origination process for non-conforming mortgages, such as closed-end second mortgages. You thrive in complex and dynamic environments, ready to innovate within the home financing sector. You embody our values, possess a strong drive for success, and your background includes:
  • Mortgage loan originator license (MLO) in one or more states and a minimum of three years of direct mortgage sales experience.
  • Over eight years of leadership experience in mortgage sales, demonstrating increasing responsibilities.
  • Experience leading teams in performance-driven and matrix-oriented settings, with a proven record of compliance and regulatory excellence.
  • Familiarity with variable compensation strategies that reward performance while addressing customer needs.
  • In-depth knowledge of mortgage industry regulations, investor guidelines, and compliance requirements.
  • A strong customer service background with the ability to resolve complex consumer situations.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving throughout the application process to closing, with a focus on customer and investor satisfaction.
  • A collaborative work ethic, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to build relationships across teams.
  • Willingness to work in the office three days a week.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • AMP (Accredited Mortgage Professional) or CMB (Certified Mortgage Banker) designation.
  • Experience leading diverse and dynamic teams in high-volume, complex product environments.
