Your Mission
As the Head of Mortgage Sales, your primary objective will be to guide our mortgage team in mastering operational processes and implementing service level agreements (SLAs) to achieve production targets while ensuring full compliance with all mortgage regulations. You will also spearhead various innovation projects aimed at enhancing product delivery and streamlining processes for our clients.
Within 1 month, you'll:
- Gain insights into our existing equity sharing agreements and the new mortgage product initiative.
- Acquaint yourself with Unison's origination and operational procedures.
- Establish connections with key stakeholders.
- Complete the educational requirements for MLO licensing.
- Set daily performance benchmarks for all roles, establish routine coaching practices, and ensure all team members master current products.
- Lead initiatives that foster a culture of compliance and quality.
- Identify process inefficiencies and develop actionable plans to address them.
- Collaborate with leadership to create and track departmental success metrics (KPIs) that drive performance towards established goals with a focus on regulatory compliance.
- Expand the team, oversee training and mentoring as new members acquire skills and adapt to Unison and our mortgage offerings.
- Ensure adherence to mortgage regulations and underwriting standards through the establishment of a robust compliance framework.
- Implement routines that enhance departmental efficiency and accuracy to meet and exceed funding objectives.
- Lead and mentor team leaders as they guide loan officers to consistently achieve or surpass funding targets.
- Manage a variable compensation structure for the loan officer team, balancing base and commission considerations.
- Review phone interactions and customer satisfaction metrics for coaching opportunities and trends.
- Provide clear explanations and training on Loan Estimates (LEs), Closing Disclosures (CDs), and mortgage documentation to newer loan officers and clients.
- Address customer escalations, follow up on complaints, and recommend resolutions.
- Document customer complaints and ensure follow-through on resolutions.
- Conduct regular process evaluations to identify efficiencies that support goal achievement and ensure compliance with mortgage laws and regulations.
- Review existing systems and procedures periodically, providing feedback to maximize efficiency and compliance.
- Oversee and schedule annual continuing education for yourself and the team to ensure timely completion while balancing business needs.
- Conduct performance reviews, offering constructive feedback and making merit-based recommendations for raises and bonuses.
You are an experienced mortgage professional with a proven track record in scaling production and refining the origination process for non-conforming mortgages, such as closed-end second mortgages. You thrive in complex and dynamic environments, ready to innovate within the home financing sector. You embody our values, possess a strong drive for success, and your background includes:
- Mortgage loan originator license (MLO) in one or more states and a minimum of 3 years of direct mortgage sales experience.
- 8+ years of leadership experience in mortgage sales, demonstrating increasing responsibilities.
- Experience managing teams in a performance-driven, matrix-oriented environment with a focus on compliance and regulatory excellence.
- Knowledge of variable compensation strategies that reward performance while addressing customer needs.
- Expertise in mortgage industry regulations, investor guidelines, and compliance requirements.
- A strong customer service background with the ability to resolve complex consumer issues.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving throughout the application process to closing, with a focus on customer and investor satisfaction.
- A collaborative work ethic, exceptional interpersonal skills, and the ability to build relationships across teams.
- Willingness to work in the Omaha office three days per week.
- AMP (Accredited Mortgage Professional) or CMB (Certified Mortgage Banker) designation.
- Experience leading diverse and dynamic teams in high-volume, complex product environments.
