Position Overview

The Office of Advancement at Princeton University is dedicated to securing philanthropic contributions that align with the institution's top priorities by actively engaging and nurturing relationships with alumni, parents, and supporters. In this role, reporting to a Senior Associate Director of Annual Giving, the Associate Director will be instrumental in orchestrating fundraising efforts for a significant reunion campaign, as well as several off-year class initiatives. This position involves close collaboration with alumni volunteers, colleagues from the advancement office, and various campus departments.

The ideal candidate will exhibit exceptional leadership, motivational, and project management skills. Previous experience in fundraising, volunteer management, sales, or related fields is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee fundraising activities for a major reunion campaign and additional off-year initiatives, while managing and supporting large teams of alumni volunteers.
  • Collaborate closely with volunteers to enhance the effectiveness of fundraising strategies across various classes.
  • Recruit, coordinate, and inspire volunteers to effectively engage potential class donors.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues from departments such as Leadership Gifts, Principal Gifts, and Gift Planning to share insights on prospective donors.
  • Articulate the mission and needs of the University effectively to potential donors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Maintain and update donor information in files and the Development database.
  • Utilize technology to research, organize, analyze, and present relevant data.
  • Analyze and synthesize information from diverse sources to support Annual Giving initiatives.
  • Generate clear and concise reports that aid in planning and decision-making for staff and volunteers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities through experience as a project facilitator, trainer, fundraiser, or in a similar role, with a proven ability to work effectively with diverse individuals in a team-oriented setting.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently; capable of working independently and making sound judgments regarding prospects and project management.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with individuals at all organizational levels, with a capacity to collaborate and influence effectively.
  • Flexibility to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced, and goal-oriented environment.
  • Exhibit the highest standards of professionalism and performance, demonstrated through teamwork, initiative, critical thinking, sound judgment, and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to earn the respect of colleagues, volunteers, and donors.
  • Experience in meaningful participation in goal setting, strategic planning, and problem-solving.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all data related to the University and its alumni.
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills to set and monitor progress against objectives.
  • Proven success in motivating volunteers and inspiring donors to contribute annually.
