Overview

The Library at Princeton University is in search of a dedicated and experienced professional with a strong commitment to service excellence to join the Fulfillment Services team. This role is situated within the Library's main facility and reports directly to the Fulfillment Services Manager. The successful candidate will oversee a team of four staff members tasked with delivering reserve services and will also act as a resource for reserve personnel at other library branches.

Princeton University Library is recognized as one of the premier research libraries globally, employing a knowledgeable staff of 300 across a central library, nine specialized branches, and three storage facilities. The library serves a diverse population of 5,200 undergraduates, 2,700 graduate students, 1,200 faculty members, and numerous visiting scholars. Its extensive collections include over 7 million printed volumes, 5 million manuscripts, 2 million non-print items, and a vast array of digital resources.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:45 AM to 5:00 PM; Summer hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Some evening and weekend work may be necessary.

Responsibilities

The Library is seeking a service-oriented individual with substantial experience in course reserves for a pivotal role within the Fulfillment Services unit. The Lead Coordinator of Course Reserves Operations will supervise four direct reports and play a key leadership role. The successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and onboarding new staff and student workers, while also providing ongoing training, feedback, and support to ensure the efficient and timely provision of course reserves. They will ensure compliance with library policies and copyright regulations.

The Coordinator will address inquiries and concerns regarding material access and availability, troubleshoot service disruptions, and collaborate with managers from other library units and external vendors to enhance service delivery. They will provide timely consultations and guidance to faculty and departmental staff on reserve policies and procedures, including submission processes, material availability, copyright considerations, and other related matters. Additionally, the Coordinator will engage in professional development activities and participate in various library and university committees and task forces to further the Library's mission and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years of library experience, with at least three years focused on providing reserve services in an academic library setting.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience in an academic library environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven experience in training staff and developing training materials.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent technical skills, with a commitment to learning new tools and technologies.
  • Experience in collaborative work across departments.
  • Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and flexibility in response to changing priorities.
  • Expertise in scanning, digitization, and document editing.
  • Familiarity with reserve management systems such as Ares and integrated library systems like Alma.
  • Experience with course management systems (e.g., Canvas).
  • Strong bibliographic research skills.
  • Knowledge of copyright issues related to library services and reserves.
  • Ability to generate statistical data and usage reports.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and engagement with a diverse community.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to bend, stretch, lift heavy books, and move large book trucks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with ILLiad.
  • Understanding of the digitization process for various media formats, including video and audio files.
  • Knowledge of Controlled Digital Lending principles.
