The role of a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) is essential in providing fundamental health care services under the direct oversight of a Registered Nurse (RN). This position involves executing routine and predictable patient care tasks, ensuring that the needs of patients are met effectively.

The responsibilities of a PCA may encompass various duties, including but not limited to monitoring vital signs, assisting with basic patient care, and facilitating patient transportation.
It is crucial for the PCA to respond to patients and their families with an understanding of age-specific requirements, tailored to the unit or department's scope of service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform EKGs and monitor vital signs.
  • Assist with daily living activities and provide compassionate care.
  • Transport patients safely within the facility.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant program or equivalent training, such as being a corpsman, EMT, or Medical Assistant. Alternatively, completion of the second semester of an accredited Nursing Program is acceptable.

Upon hire:
Certification in National Provider BLS - American Heart Association is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
At least one year of experience as a Nurse Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant in a hospital or post-acute care setting.
