Patient Monitoring Technician

Position Overview
The Patient Monitoring Technician collaborates with the entire healthcare team to ensure continuous observation of patients, swiftly identifying any movements and proactively notifying nursing staff and other caregivers. This role is crucial in preventing adverse incidents such as patient falls, elopement, and ensuring the safety of both patients and visitors from a centralized monitoring station. Additionally, the Patient Monitoring Technician undertakes clerical and receptionist responsibilities while assisting clinical staff with non-clinical tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Serves as a resource for patients and their families or visitors.
- Addresses administrative tasks with respect and compassion.
- Follows infection control protocols diligently.
- Complies with established policies and procedures to guarantee safe and effective care.
- Aids in enhancing patient comfort and security.
- Engages in effective communication with patients, families, and medical personnel throughout the care process.
- Adheres to national patient safety standards set by regulatory bodies.
- Meets organizational quality benchmarks and goals.
- Recognizes factors influencing patient care and follows the appropriate reporting procedures.
- Maintains positive working relationships with hospital team members.
- Participates in initiatives aligned with the Magnet Model of excellence.
- Reports any issues requiring nursing intervention without delay.
- Supports patient care within the scope of practice as directed by healthcare team members.
- Utilizes resources efficiently and responsibly.
- Communicates with patients using the AIDET framework.
- Answers calls and patient inquiries promptly, employing proper phone etiquette, and greeting patients, visitors, and staff courteously; assesses needs and directs them appropriately, relaying messages to unit personnel in a timely manner, ensuring high-quality customer service.
- Introduces oneself by name and title when responding to calls.
- Acknowledges patients and family members upon their arrival at the front station.
- Acts as a preceptor in an engaged and proactive manner.
- Observes, monitors, and records patient movements and interactions.
- Communicates and redirects patients as necessary.
- Identifies changes in patient behavior and recognizes potential safety risks, responding appropriately.
- Documents all patient interactions and communications accurately.
- Monitors patients transferring to and from the unit and those leaving for procedures to ensure continuous observation while on the monitor.
Educational Requirements
Degree Program High School Diploma/GED or higher in General Studies.
