Role Description

The Culture Coordinator position is tailored for individuals who possess a deep understanding of the educational needs of opportunity youth, the application of restorative justice practices, and the support of high school students in a blended learning context. Reporting to the Assistant Principal, the Culture Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring adherence to the school's code of conduct, guiding students through peer mediation, and administering appropriate consequences for minor infractions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive atmosphere in hallways and classrooms within the assigned area.
  • Assist in managing student movement throughout the school premises.
  • Implement suitable minor consequences in line with the code of conduct, including addressing and documenting discipline referrals from teachers.
  • Intervene to prevent verbal and physical conflicts among students.
  • Collaborate with the Restorative Justice Coordinator to facilitate student efforts in repairing harm following negative interactions.
  • Input student discipline data into the school's information system.
  • Document communications with parents regarding student behavior.
  • Track individual student tardiness and engage with parents as necessary.
  • Compile and maintain records of student incident reports.
  • Facilitate peer mediation sessions to resolve conflicts.
  • Support in-school suspension and detention as required.
  • Act as the in-school suspension coordinator when needed.
  • Participate in local professional development and training sessions.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet established deadlines.
  • Capacity to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff.
  • Physical stamina to navigate the campus for extended periods.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of TACT2 training.
  • Commitment to confidentiality regarding sensitive student information.
  • Skill in establishing supportive relationships with students to aid their educational objectives.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, initiative, and a collaborative spirit within the school community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (preferred).
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with at-risk youth in educational settings.
  • Experience in behavior intervention and school safety.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Experience managing youth discipline for ages 13 to 19.
  • Background in socio-emotional learning environments.
  • Trained in TACT2 or willing to undergo training and certification.
