Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a Materials and Process Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively to establish and refine materials and process specifications for components integral to our Linear Generator system. This role requires adaptability in a fast-paced environment encompassing engineering, research and development, and manufacturing.

  • Conduct material testing programs to assess performance and qualify suppliers, utilizing established methodologies and developing new tests for specialized applications, including tribology, corrosion, strength, and fatigue.
  • Collaborate with engineering and supply chain teams to create material selection processes and acceptance criteria.
  • Engage with design engineers to implement risk analysis processes, participating in cross-functional teams to execute Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for design, processes, and maintenance.
  • Enhance materials specifications and processes focusing on cost efficiency and reliability.
  • Work cross-functionally to optimize critical processes, including:
    • Thermal spray coatings
    • Castings
    • Plated and painted coatings
    • Welding
    • Heat treatment
    • Adhesives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science/Engineering or Metallurgy is required; an advanced degree is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience as a Materials or Mechanical Engineer, or 2 years with a PhD.
  • Experience in process development in areas such as welding, heat treatment of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, casting, or corrosion-resistant coatings is essential.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% to collaborate with vendors and suppliers.
  • Strong understanding of engineering materials, basic metallurgy, and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of material failure mechanisms (e.g., fatigue, creep) is highly desirable.
  • Experience in process development, including vendor collaboration and specification preparation.
  • Familiarity with materials characterization and Non-Destructive Testing is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of serving as a technical subject matter expert.
  • Understanding and application of FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
  • Proficient in data analysis and reporting tools (e.g., Matlab/Python, Google Docs, Weibull ++).
  • A self-motivated individual who thrives in a dynamic environment.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is competitive and includes pre-IPO stock options and benefits. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications.
