POSITION: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

STATUS: Salary-Exempt

Job Summary

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the Environment, Health, and Safety department at Power Systems Manufacturing, LLC. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the industrial waste management program. Key responsibilities include the transportation, storage, and disposal of waste materials, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure adherence to state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Maintain compliance in Central Accumulation Areas and Satellite Accumulation Areas.
  • Assist in developing and implementing waste management procedures.
  • Oversee the decontamination and disposal of empty containers in accordance with regulations.
  • Support recycling initiatives by collecting and storing recyclable materials.
  • Prepare waste containers for shipment and manage necessary shipping documentation.
  • Handle loading and unloading of various waste containers.
  • Utilize various tools for waste management tasks.
  • Monitor compliance at waste generation points and address discrepancies.
  • Provide waste packaging support and ensure proper containerization for transport.
  • Coordinate with team leads for efficient container movement.
  • Assist in completing all required paperwork for waste processing.
  • Transport materials across the facility as needed.
  • Identify and communicate hazards to EHS management.
  • Conduct inspections and document findings related to environmental compliance.
  • Support data collection for reporting purposes.
  • Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Manage environmental issues, including spills, while maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation & Training
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of EHS regulatory training as required.
  • Willingness to undergo training for hazardous waste determination.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and pallet jacks safely.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • DOT Hazardous Waste Training.
  • Previous certifications in forklift operation.
  • Certification as a Hazardous Materials Practitioner.
Skills & Experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in hazardous waste management.
  • Experience in a detail-oriented work environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to quickly learn company policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with electronic EHS management systems.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to wear protective equipment as necessary.
  • Capable of standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Exposure to various environmental conditions.
  • Ability to lift weights up to 30 lbs.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
