Role SummaryThe Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the Environment, Health, and Safety department at Power Systems Manufacturing, LLC. This position involves overseeing the daily operations of the industrial waste management program, which includes the transportation, storage, and disposal of waste materials.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure adherence to state and federal environmental regulations.
- Maintain compliance in Central Accumulation Areas and Satellite Accumulation Areas.
- Assist in developing and implementing waste management procedures.
- Oversee the decontamination and disposal of empty containers in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Support recycling initiatives by collecting and storing recyclable materials.
- Prepare waste containers for shipment, including proper closure and documentation.
- Handle the loading and unloading of various waste containers.
- Utilize tools and equipment for waste management tasks.
- Monitor compliance at Points of Generation and Satellite Accumulation Areas.
- Provide waste packaging support and assist in container inspections.
- Coordinate with team leads for container movements.
- Complete necessary paperwork for waste processing.
- Transport materials within the facility.
- Identify and communicate hazards to management.
- Conduct inspections and facilitate data collection for reporting.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Manage environmental issues, including chemical spills, while maintaining a safe work environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education & Training:
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Completion of EHS regulatory training as required.
- Training in hazardous waste determination and EPA regulations.
- Valid U.S. Driver's License.
- Ability to operate forklifts and pallet jacks safely.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations such as RCRA, EPA, and OSHA is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
- DOT Hazardous Waste Training.
- Previous certifications in forklift operation.
- Certification as a Hazardous Materials Practitioner.
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years in hazardous waste management, preferably with Large Quantity Generators.
- Experience in a detail-oriented quality environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to adapt to established policies and learn operational procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS management systems.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to wear protective equipment as required.
- Physical stamina for standing, walking, and lifting.
- Exposure to various environmental conditions.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
