Job SummaryThe Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is tasked with supporting the Environment, Health, and Safety department at Power Systems Manufacturing, LLC. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities related to the management of industrial waste disposal operations. Key duties include the transportation and storage of waste materials, waste classification, minimization, and proper disposal methods, as well as the preparation of waste for shipment and maintaining accurate documentation.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure adherence to relevant state and federal environmental regulations.
- Maintain compliance in Central Accumulation Areas, Satellite Accumulation Areas, and Day Cans throughout the facility.
- Assist in creating and implementing Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures for waste management.
- Oversee the decontamination and disposal of empty containers in accordance with RCRA and disposal guidelines.
- Support recycling initiatives by collecting and storing recyclable materials for appropriate processing.
- Prepare waste containers for shipment, ensuring proper closure and documentation.
- Handle the loading and unloading of various container sizes.
- Utilize a variety of tools for waste management tasks.
- Monitor compliance at Points of Generation and Satellite Accumulation Areas, addressing any discrepancies.
- Interpret and apply state and federal regulatory publications.
- Provide packaging support for operations personnel, ensuring containers are suitable for shipment.
- Coordinate with team leads to manage container movements and exchanges.
- Complete necessary paperwork for material processing, including shipping documents.
- Transport materials and waste across various facility locations.
- Assist in the handling of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials.
- Identify potential hazards and communicate effectively with EHS Management.
- Conduct inspections and document findings as required.
- Facilitate data collection and preparation for reporting requirements.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Evaluate and manage environmental concerns, including chemical spills, while maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field (Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, etc.) or equivalent experience.
- Completion of EHS regulatory training as outlined by the company.
- Training in accordance with EPA regulations for hazardous waste determination.
- Valid U.S. Driver's License.
- Ability to operate forklifts and powered pallet jacks safely.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and safety standards.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
- DOT Hazardous Waste Training.
- Previous certifications for forklift and powered pallet jack operation.
- Certification as a Hazardous Materials Practitioner.
- At least 2 years of experience in hazardous waste management.
- Experience in a detail-oriented work environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to quickly learn company policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with electronic EHS management systems.
- Able to wear protective equipment as necessary.
- Capable of handling physical demands of the job, including lifting and exposure to various environmental conditions.
- Willingness to travel as required.
