POSITION: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

STATUS: Salary-Exempt

ROLE SUMMARY

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the Environment, Health, and Safety department at Power Systems Manufacturing, LLC. This position involves overseeing the operational aspects of the industrial waste management program. Key responsibilities encompass the transportation, storage, and disposal of waste materials, as well as the preparation and documentation required for waste shipments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure adherence to relevant state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Maintain the Central Accumulation Area and other designated waste storage locations to ensure compliance.
  • Assist in creating and implementing Standard Operating Procedures related to waste management.
  • Oversee the decontamination and disposal of empty containers in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Support recycling initiatives by collecting and storing recyclable materials appropriately.
  • Prepare waste containers for shipment, ensuring proper closure and documentation.
  • Handle loading and unloading of various container types safely.
  • Utilize various tools for waste management tasks.
  • Monitor waste generation points for compliance and rectify any discrepancies.
  • Read and apply state and federal regulatory guidelines effectively.
  • Provide support for waste packaging and ensure suitability for shipment.
  • Coordinate with team leads to manage container movements.
  • Complete necessary paperwork for material processing, including shipping documents.
  • Transport materials across the facility as required.
  • Identify potential hazards and communicate necessary corrective actions.
  • Conduct inspections and maintain documentation for compliance purposes.
  • Assist in data collection for reporting requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits as needed.
  • Manage environmental issues on-site, including spill response, while maintaining a clean work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation & Training
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Chemistry, Environmental Engineering) or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of EHS regulatory training as required.
  • Training in hazardous waste determination and EPA regulations.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and pallet jacks safely.
  • Knowledge of RCRA, EPA, DOT, and OSHA regulations is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • DOT Hazardous Waste Training.
  • Previous certifications in forklift operation.
  • Certification as a Hazardous Materials Practitioner is a plus.
Skills & Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years in hazardous waste management, particularly with Large Quantity Generators.
  • Experience in quality-focused environments with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to adapt to established policies and quickly learn operational processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with electronic EHS management systems is advantageous.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Able to wear protective equipment as necessary.
  • Capable of handling physical demands, including lifting and prolonged standing.
  • Willingness to work in various environmental conditions.
  • Ability to travel as required.
