KIPP Baltimore, established in 2002, is dedicated to providing exceptional public charter education and alumni support programs that equip students with the necessary skills and confidence to pursue their individual career aspirations. Serving approximately 1,500 students from kindergarten through eighth grade, KIPP Baltimore operates two schools on a shared campus in West Baltimore. Our commitment extends beyond the classroom, supporting over 3,000 current students and alumni through our KIPP Forward program.

KIPP Baltimore is part of the national KIPP Public Schools network, which began in 1994 and has grown to encompass 280 schools, 15,000 educators, and 175,000 students and alumni. Each KIPP school is locally governed and operates as a non-profit organization.

Position Overview

The School Library Clerk, as a contracted employee of the Fund for Educational Excellence, works under the general supervision of the Fund in collaboration with the school principal. This role is vital in supporting library operations through the management and maintenance of educational resources utilizing an automated library system, while also providing clerical and client support to the librarian.

Key Responsibilities
  • Generate and maintain reports using the Destiny Library Management System.
  • Assist in processing educational resources for the library.
  • Manage the check-in and check-out of library materials, alongside various administrative tasks as directed by the librarian.
  • Guide students and teachers in locating and utilizing library resources and databases.
  • Support the librarian in supervising students within the library environment.
  • Engage with students through reading sessions and library activities.
  • Contribute to the creation of newsletters and displays.
  • Ensure the accuracy and condition of incoming materials, filing discrepancy reports as necessary.
  • Schedule and maintain library equipment usage.
  • Handle phone communications, relay messages, and sort library correspondence.
  • Operate and troubleshoot library equipment, including computers and audiovisual tools, and coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Assist in data collection for the Library Project's evaluation with the Baltimore Education Research Consortium.
  • Fulfill additional duties related to library operations as assigned.
  • Participate in relevant professional development activities.
  • Uphold all library activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies.
  • Support the Baltimore Elementary and Middle School Library Project through project promotion and regular meetings.
  • Welcome parents and guardians accessing other resources in the school.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining partnerships related to the Library Project.
Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least six months of experience in a library setting or one year in office administration or records management.
  • Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Familiarity with basic library procedures and office administration.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and manage cash records.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capability to work independently and interact positively with students, staff, and the public.
  • Proficient in using personal computers and software applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Additional Information

Compensation is based on education and experience, with an hourly rate ranging from $17 to $22. This part-time position is contracted for 10 months, requiring 25 hours per week. Benefits include paid sick days and compensation for scheduled school closures.
